I've finally ditched the abysmal AOL software. All well and good. All I need to do now is convert my AOL favorites to a standard format so I can import them into Firefox.

Searching online, I find two options. Firstly, open each favourite, copy the URL and paste into into a new bookmark in Firefox. Secondly, buy a program that might or might not convert them all at once.

Does anyone have a better option?

Copy and paste rather than spending money on a program that you will use once.

Just be glad that you don't have to get the mail out of the AOL software db. I had a nightmare of a time doing just that for my mother about a year ago when she decided to change ISPs - can be done; but it's really not easy :(

I would imagine that with a bit of research - you could script it; that's what I ended up doing for the mail.

I converted my dad from the AOL Bloatware into Firefox and he has never looked back.

I had to copy over 150 Favourites that he wanted into Firefox....a long time!

And that was done by copying the URL. I copied the favourites, saved his Firefox profile and reformatted the computer to get rid of the AOL Software properly!

I'm just going to use autoruns to stop any of it running. That seems like much less fuss than reformatting the drive, reinstalling everything and recovering saved games and other data from backup.

I saw a link a couple of days ago to a website that would convert AOL format to a standard bookmark format...but I didn't make a note of it. Bah.
