Easy way to get all mouse buttons working?

Ubuntu thinks my mouse is:
I: Bus=0003 Vendor=046d Product=c025 Version=9802
N: Name="B16_b_02 USB-PS/2 Optical Mouse"
P: Phys=usb-0000:00:02.0-3/input0
H: Handlers=mouse0 event1 ts0

However it is a Logitech MX500 USB optical mouse.

The problem is that the extra buttons on my mouse don't work. Is there an easy way to get them working?

A quick Google throws this thread from the Ubuntu forums up. 22 pages of people, just like you, with Logitech mice and ubuntu

thanks Al Vallario- i had found that (or something very similar on another website) but was hoping there was something drastically simpler

a gui version perhaps?
