Easy way to migrate windows 7 to windows 7

Hi
Is there an easy way to move windows from my old box to my new one?
It going to have min 16Gb RAM, hopefully 32Gb.

I was thinking of creating a VMware image of the old system Win 7 64 and installing VMware windows 7 64 on to the new box.

Reasons for this are
a) I want a virtual machine for internet downloads. I have been hit with too many viruses and malware.
b) If I create a image and I install something that screws the machine up, I just re load that image.
c) I can create other virtual test machines.

Was thinking of possibly going down the linux os path and putting virtual box on with windows 7 64 to make the start up quicker and the OS more efficient.

You realise if you put on a hypervisor first then you are going to have performance issues? What is the main purpose of the machine?

a) won't make any differences - this is down to user naivety and should be resolved by actually thinking before you click and having a decent AV on there - having restricted user accounts would help to.

b) fine - you don't need a hypervisor to do this - you can install Windows 7 and use one of the hundreds of imaging tools to do this.

c) fine - you can do this with anything though on top of windows rather than using a hypervisor and the putting an OS on top of it (just guessing this is what you are doing by the way it's not exactly clear)

As soon as you introduce an hypervisor you are not making it more efficient. There's nothing efficient about having an operating system running an operating system. I can see this when it's magnified out and you have a server running hundreds of VM's because you can get the scale in there.

Personally I'd run Windows 7 and then put stuff on top of it. If you don't have Windows 7 as your base operating system then gaming is going to be a nightmare in a virtual machine for example.

What are you actually trying to achieve? Just a download box (in which case you can do this on top of Windows 7)
