I've noticed Easyjet's baggage policy changed earlier this year which affects what you can take on as hand luggage. The wording is as follows:

"All customers can bring on board one small cabin bag (max. 45 x 36 x 20 cm), which must fit under the seat in front of them."

So the dimensions are pretty clear, but I'm pretty sure that if you had a bag with those dimensions it wouldn't fit under the seat in front, what with all the metalwork and such.

Has anyone flown with them recently and can advise on how this is being enforced?

AFAIK you are still allowed a "typical" cabin bag, just expect it to be taken from you as you board and put in the hold. Usually if the flight isn't busy they won't bother.

Edit: Nope, looks like they're following Whizz air. Basically you can take a backpack unless you pay for the extra cabin bag/seat that includes the cabin bag.

They’ve changed their set up, to try and get you to select ‘seat selection, priority boarding and a cabin bag’. You used to be able to pick what you want, but now they try and make you buy the bundle. It’s around £25.
They are offering a bag drop service for something like £7 where you can take a full size cabin bag, but you check it when you get to the airport.

The Points Guy did a good article about it: https://thepointsguy.co.uk/guide/ea...9918c428a8a527eeae8985c81&utm_date=2021-09-01

a 30litre backpack fits quite comfortably, you could probably even get a 40litre one underneath if the staff will let you.

Sometimes they wanted me to put my 30litre backback in the overhead but 90% of the time they saw it as fine, guess it depends how dopey the cabin crew are.

Guess it;s just another money maker now, only a handful of times did they ever ask for volunteer bags to go in the hold, I used to fly loads with them

You can still use the overhead storage. EasyJet have always been on the smaller side for hand luggage. I flew today and had a not full 40l bag (if I filled it to the max it would probably have issues fitting) and a laptop pouch with handle type bag.

Last fights we booked with them it was made clear that the onboard baggage now was only the underseat option.
Unless you opted to pay for the choose ya seat option

If yer struglling with bag size have a look at the cabinmax stuff.
We've got a pair of the backpacks designed for the older style "carry on" at first they seemed monstrous and I thought we'd get pulled, never had any bother wiht them.

That size will easily fit under the seat, we had a bag that was over that size but a couple cm but was a rucksack so they never checked (also could have been squashed). Plenty of room for it and a jumper and feet.

They have however also changed check in baggage I think so the default option is only 15kg and you have to pay more for 20 or more.
