Easy's C2D 6400 Clock

OK a few people on the forum questioned my C2D overclock saying my 3.8ghz was never proved.

I do this now.

From stock 2.13ghz to 3.8ghz orthos stable.Temps are nice too.

This is for you, But all, please feel free to comment on my overclock.

I will leave it untill the morning for 12 hrs validation.

Easy, can't you take a decent screenie yet? cmon guy you've got half your desktop showing needlessly in the pics, change your res to 1024x768, arrange your windows a bit, then throw the screenshot through photoshop and reduce the width to 750 pixels

Also get an e6420 and see if you can get it to match that e6400!

Do you reckon it's at its limits or you can get more out of it?

I'm leaving it running now until morning (types from laptop) then I may try 4ghz.

Im certainly not worried by temps.As you can see 61c full load

Yeh, I don't like Speedfan though, when I used it the temperatures were like 20degrees off TAT + Coretemp.

But TBH I don't see many 3.8ghz clocks on 6400 about.So I'm sharing.

4ghz on a 6600 is not that impressive now given the multi and stock speed.

Wayne if your not interested then don't post mate.

Skeptical about TAT, same E6600 cpu i had bouncing about 4 boards, XBX, XBX2 and 2 DS3s showed different temps with as much as 15C difference with the same sink/fan, no case used and the 2 DS3s were same rev.

Agreed speedfan seems to ,well what can I say, just work

Those temps are fine and well within the chips limits.

The system is 100% stable.

So much so that this has been my 24/7 overclock for months.

Hi have had a few C2D however only one of each model.

I bought

one 6600 did 3.8ghz
one 6300 did 3.5ghz
one 6400 did 3.8ghz
one 4300 did 3.5ghz
one QX 6700 did 3.6ghz

So the two lucky chips have been the 6600 and the 6400 oh and the quad was not to shabby either.I never bought the same chip twice.

Maybe a stupid question, but why have you got all these chips? Do you work in the business? Or have you bought all of these ??

I never had them all at the same time.

The first chip was the 6600 imported from Orange texas.I had that a few months and sold it for a quad.

I played with the quad for a few weeks decided it wasn't worth the 670 price tag and sold it.

Bought the 6400,the chip I have now.

The 6300 was in a second PC and the 4300 was bought for a system build I was doing for someone that never materialised.

I have just sold the 6300 and 4300 on MM

So I now have one 6400 running @ 3.8ghz

As I say I have only bought a certain model of C2D once.

I'm not one for trying the same chips over and over as have never needed to.
I like trying the the different models but as I say I only try them once.

What is your water setup?

I'm using the Swiftech Apex Kit with Apogee block. May get a better block though.

All standard stuff from the KIT.

Memory is my G Skill HZ and the mobo is a gigabyte DQ6 I bought off MM for 45 quid.

The chip was 125 quid at auction lol,Bought as a fill in chip.Before coming to me it was ran at stock.

I'm happy that you've proved it. It's a very good overclock for an E6400.

My 680i would not boot at 460 and yet would happily and be stable at 487.

Easyrider and I both filter a lot of kit so I've seen a few 3.6-3.8GHz chips but I've never had a REALLY good one eg. Webbo has one at over 4GHz on water cooling. That's the keeper that I'm really looking for.

Its funny though,

I have only bought one cpu of each model.

I have been lucky with 6600 and 6400


I must admit I filter mobos the most.

I must have been through about 10

Its just a number tbh. I can't tell any difference apart from synthetic benchmarks between that 4ghz 32A and 3.6 28A one that went before it.

Its been sold now as I got an offer I couldn't turn down (£170 +E6600 [email protected] - 1.52v) - not bad for 100mhz
