I know it can be a little scary at first but it really is better to use the bios when overclocking. Get out your motherboard manual, read it and do a lot of research beforehand - it will benefit you and your pc in the long term.
But......recent expereiences with my father's latest build (Gigabyte K8N Pro SLI) had far more success with EasyTune than BIOS - we couldn't get it to POST over 218HTT in BIOS, but EasyTune has got it up to beyond 240 already !!!!!
trust me, i was looking at software overclocking solutions when i got my opteron last year, but then i went into the bios and did it - much more stable, gives you a better idea as to what is going on, and it works!!
there are many guides out there to let you know what to change. use one of them and you'll be fine.
