Good afternoon,

Im new to all this overclocking lark, but thought I would start buy doing the overclocking that is provided with EasyTune 6 software, as far as i know this changes voltages to the optimum for the desired overclock etc. This is done in 3 stages,

Stage 1 3.8ghz
Stage 2 4.2 ghz
Stage 3 4.6ghz

I've read that prime95 is a good stress test, so after applying the stage 3 overclock I ran the test for 8 hours, the CPU temp never recorded over 54 degrees, however core 3 shut down after about 45 minutes.

The system is as below:

KFA2 GeForce GTX 680 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card
GIGABYTE GA-Z77X-UD3H Intel Z77 Socket 1155 DDR3 PCI-Express Motherboard
Intel Core i5-3570K 3.40GHz (Ivybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor (77W) - Retail OCZ Agility 3 240GB 2.5" SATA-III Solid State Hard Drive
650W Corsair HX Series V2 80PLUS Gold Modular Power Supply
Corsair Vengeance Low Profile Jet Black 16GB DDR3 1600 MHz CAS 10 XMP Dual Channel Desktop Memory
TP-Link 300Mbps Advanced Wireless N PCI Adapter [TL-WN951N]
LG BH10LS38 Blu-ray Writer Full Retail with Software Internal SATA
be quiet! Dark Rock Pro Dual Fan Quiet CPU Cooler
Fractal Design Define R3 Titanium V2 Midi Tower Soundproof Case
3TB Seagate Barracuda ST3000DM001 3.5" SATA III Hard Drive

Is there anything glaring that I am missing causing this core to shut down? Or is 4.6 a little too ambitious? The system is currently running at Stage 1 no issue whatsoever with temps about 48 under max load.

Thanks in advance :)

Recently tried the stage 2 over clock although for me it was 4.4ghz i think.

Had been having random lockup issues, not sure if its related to the OC yet but anyway the presets on Easytune seem to OC the BCLK and the multiplier rather than just the multiplier. You might be better off doing it manually, could be more stable.

Just learning myself so could be wrong but it'll be better/more stable to go with only a multiplier OC and bump up the Vcore as required.

I'm sure someone will provide further insight

Don't use Easytune, it's a load of rubbish. If you go into the BIOS you can get a more stable overclock.

For the 3570K, all you really need to change is the CPU multiplier and voltages when needed. Also would be best to turn off turbo. Your temps seem fine with that cooler.

I did a bit more research in other threads and I've seen that Easytune in meant to be crap. Might as well remove that I think.

Ive been reading about temps for the 3570k, you said my temps seem ok, where do you think the sweet spot is in relation to speed and heat.

thanks again
