After getting some decent speakers i thought it might be about time to get a sound card to match.

I was thinking of getting the Asus one but i hear it only supports EAX2 not 5 or whatever.

Just what kind of difference would i notice in games with 5 over 2?

Thanks!

I've not played a game that features EAX5.0 yet myself?

I've installed a X-Fi XtremeGamer recently and think its really good however I was using the onboard audio prior to this (ADI® AD1988B 8-channel High Definition Audio CODEC).

That ASUS card does look nice but its quite pricey at £117.49 inc

What are your needs? are you looking for an all singing all dancing audio card that can do everything?

Have you read much about the soon to be released Auzentech X-Fi Prelude 7.1 Soundcard because if I was going to lay down over a hundred smackers on a soundcard I would have the Auzentech on my short list :)

Still works and adds effects, its still the standard in games, its if game uses DirectSound then EAX is buggered and you need install Creative Alchemy.

I only beta tested BF2, dont like them games ideally.

quake 4 and with patch doom 3 both support eax 5, and eax 5 is awesome... actually got a bit of shell shock playing the opening of quake 4 with it turned up... it sound so realistic... came away from my computer shaking.....
