I've literally no idea how this has happened.

I've been a pc/internet user since a kid, I don't download dodgy crapp, I don't click retarded spoof links in my emails.

But somehow someone has gotten access to my ebay account and listed a bunch of winter jackets for sale for like 3 quid.... I assume automated by a script. It spammed out a bunch of ads and sold a bunch now i've got like 300 open cases in my ebay center. Loads of spam emails saying "Buyer has been refunded for non delivery"

I'm completely confused.

Did you not get any emails regarding listing items etc? To list over 300 and sell them without you knowing seems odd.

There has been a lot of breeches recently - from things as basic as marketing data through to random dumps harvested via the heart bleed bug and 1-2 other security flaws, etc. and some automated attempts to tie it all together, trying to match information from different leaks to the same individual and guess at likely passwords via things like your street name, etc. so you might just be unlucky.

Its a pain but probably a good idea to change passwords if you are still using any that are over 2 months old or so :s complete pain.

You need to contact eBay customer support or whatever they call it immediately if you havn't already and tell them your account has been hijacked. That ought to get it suspended at least and then you can try and sort out the mess

You may be prudent with protecting your security, but that cannot be said for companies that hold your data.

I nearly fell for one recently. An email saying I had a offer. Listed my actual item in the email and looked exactly like the emails you get from eBay when you do get an offer

Only when you click the link it takes you to a spoof eBay page which asks you to log in

I did get one that I hadn't noticed saying "your item has been sold" but only one email... then 3ish days later I started getting cases opened, that's when I noticed as my email inbox was spamed.

It's all sorted now and i've followed advice of guys here 2fa etc.

I'm just perplexed as to how someone gained access to my account like they did....

When am I going to receive my winter jacket?

LOL you'll be waiting a while i'm afraid :D

Does eBay actually have 2FA? I have PayPal setup with 2FA but cannot seem to find this for eBay.

OP, did you actually find out how your password was compromised?

Yeah they do, it's under account security settings. They text you a code whenever you log in.

Nope, no idea.... i've been sat racking my brain and made this thread to try get some feedback.

I never click any links (I never do for any emails ever always go to main site and log in manually). I've not be trojaned or keylogged.... my only guess could be brute force attack of some sort. Or a database leak from another website but I don't use the same passwords for my accounts. I use different ones.
