so I come in from work today to see yet again somebody taken control of my account, they requested my email address be changed and password was changed, ebay locked the account and I managed to change my password again and unlock the account. what exactly can you do to stop this happening? last time they bought a load of paintings.

Thank you for submitting your change of email address request. Instructions on completing the change have been sent to your new email address. Once the process is completed, your eBay-related email will no longer be routed to this email address.

If you did not make this change, check with family members and others who may have access to your account first. If you still feel that an unauthorised person has changed your email, get help here:

Change of email address request was made from:
IP Address: 67.60.106.59
ISP Host: 67.60.106.59

Thank you,
eBay

just done this cheers
only reason i don't think the bought anything this time round is because im sure when ever i buy something i need to enter my paypal password.

No problem, they probably can't buy anything but still can use your name and address details for identity theft.

The fact that you say this has happened more than once is a concern, surely? What steps did you take after the first time it happened?

As above, EBay accounts are not inherently unsecure or else people would be losing accounts daily.
Your username is not going to be difficult to find out, so the whole security of your account relies on the password.
So you have your account "hacked" or rather somebody finds out your password. You change this password and yet somebody manages to find it out again.
I'd be far more worried than just my Ebay account was at risk.

Repeated breaches are probably a keylogger, I would nuke that install and start a new one.
This again, might be best before changing eBay passwords or anything like that doing a clean install on any devices you use. Then change passwords for everything you use and where possible two factor authentication.

Could a compromised router be a threat with things like DNS records, there's been a lot about routers being hacked in recent months?

Always presume key loggers, especially on other computers than your own and countermeasure - let's say your password is 1234passworD - start typing 'passwor' then click at the beginning of the field type '1234' press [end] key to get to the end and finish your password with 'D'. It will look gibrish on keylog and believe me - nobody is parsing through them manually to understand WTF was done to derail keylogger.

I wish eBay would update this to allow trusted browsers / devices.

Gets annoying having to enter a 6 digit code everytime you log in. I'd imagine it's caused a few people to turn it back off.

100%, I turned on 2 factor authentication after I was hacked early in the year. But entering the code every time I login did my head in.

No excuse to not have 2fa on everything nowadays, especially for those that are posting on a computer forum...

I changed my ebay / paypal / email passwords. i don't open any crappy emails, just add them to spam/junk folder. i don't often venture onto unknown websites either these days, just a select few sites i visit.

i think a format is is over due as suggested several times, also going to check other laptops in the house aswell now.
