Ive just sold something on ebay for £270.

Listing Fees = £4.50
Final Value Fee = £9.36
Paypal Fee = £10.04

So thats £23.90 or approx 9% of the sale price.

Also, due to "the nature of the item you are selling" i was FORCED to use Paypal as the payment method.

I think this is taking the preverbial a bit and most of the time people dont even notice, isnt it about time ebay starting providing a bit more value to their customers given the IMMENNSE profits they are making?

Sort of answered your own question there. They're making immense profits and people are still using them.

They'll only make an effort if there's a threat of them making less money.

monopoly basically, needs someone like Branson to start doing for nowt and kick them in the head

yes its a a shame ebay is so expensive to use to sell things. They break the fees down into smaller amounts just like you have listed to try and hide the total payable. With some items though, it can be the only pratical way of finding buyers.

Cry me a river. You sold an item for £270, which is presumably more than you thought you could get selling it in the classified ads.

Ebay charge what they do, because they can. People keep paying the fees, myself included, because the service is generally excellent.

I dont use ebay anymore because I am fed up of being extorted fees and being conned by numerous people on there. MM is much better :)

If you don't like it, don't use it :) eBay's a business, just like every other business, they're in it to make money... Taking your business elsewhere is the best way to hit them where it hurts!

The fees are steep. But, consider the exposure your item gets being on eBay, where else will you get to advertise your items in front of millions of potential buyers?

They are far from perfect, but as said above, until someone challenges their grip on the market it will remain the place to sell anything and everything.

Use eBid instead! That place will only grow and get better if more people use it

That's exactly the problem... Ebay has literally millions of buyers and millions of sellers. There is no chance of any change unless people were to move en masse, and then you're back to square one.

You sold something through a third party business and it cost you less then 10% commission.

In any other line of work that would be rather good.

you'd only have similar charges if you sold at a normal aucition. just persuade the buyer to foot them ;)

They have an effective monopoly. Hopefully Google will bring an auction site out to rival eby. Then we can have a proper price war.

eBay rules, simply for the 'Buy It Now Bunnies' that come bounding allong and click BIN on your item you stuck up at a stupid high price just for a laugh!

Sold a new ATI X600 Pro for £80 + £10 postage!

I only ever click BIN if the price is right by checking it against online stores. If it is then its a really fast way to buy something.

I know what you mean though, you get a lot more views if you have a BIN on. I managed to sell an AMD 3000 winny ages ago for the same price they retailed using BIN.

I sold a motorbike on ebay, I probably could not have found a buyer selling locally let alone a decent price. I prefer the MM for computer parts though.
