We're looking to book a private villa in Bansko for next Feb... Through ebay, using PayPal and a credit card so hopefully we would have some sort of protection, not sure how risky it is though?
Has anybody done this? Any advice?

Any particular reasons why ebay over other agencies?

Is it significantly cheaper?

I dont think financial cover is the biggest risk with a cheap villa booking. Things like getting there and it being awful because ebay don't check on a sellers standards or wasting a week work holiday due to a cancellation last minute. Not that ebay is worse than other holiday agencies for this sort of thing (never used them for this), just wondering why ebay?

Just do your homework and check everything is legit. I have read a few stories of people arriving and nothing there.

Seems like an odd place to check for properties, myself.

I'd personally myself go through a travel agency or the like, might be a bit more costly but I recon I'll be better off claiming from them than trying my luck with ebay if it all goes **** up.

I would say a holiday agency certainly has more motivation to make sure customers don't get hard done by and are more experienced at making arrangements if something goes awry but for all i know, ebay holiday management could just be passed off to a set of agencies and its essentially just the name 'ebay' that is used.

Reminds me of a holiday cottage we booked in Oban 2 years ago via eBay. Got there and it was little more than a pig sty. Turned around and drove straight back home. Only lost the deposit but did a 900+ mile round trip that day. I wouldn’t take the risk with overseas.
