I found a scam auction on Ebay this morning , now I no this is nothing unusual but this is for a highish value item and is 100% a scam , bidding is currently at £510 with 3 hours to go

I have reported the auction to Ebay but will they take action before someone loses a lot of money

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=8909500357&rd=1&sspagename=STRK:MEWA:IT&rd=1

also , if anyone else is an Ebay/watch fan amd wants to play detective I will leave it a while before pointing out the obvious reason that it is a scam

that is one thought but it will come from my account , there is then the possibilty that this is a shill bidder who could cause me problems in the future

Where do I start?

The numbers on the dial look wrong, the hours markings look wrong, did the submariner not need batteries?

/me stabs wildly in the dark :p

er , none of those

the pics all show a genuine Submariner

Ahh, fair enough. I don't know why I thought that!

0 feedback seller, and it's far too cheap.

K.

those things are true but I have one piece of conclusive proof , just working on some pics to explain

he is not selling a fake watch , as I see it he does not have a watch to sell

First a bit of history

about 4 years ago Rolex changed the design of the bracelet/case on the Submariner to incorporate what is know as SEL ( solid end links ) , this made for a more comfortable fit

This is a front view of a SEL bracelet ( mine )

If you look at the middle link as it leaves the case you see that it is one solid piece of metal ( the gold bit ) that is longer than the two outside bits which are hinged

previously they were hinged through the centre piece in line with the outer pieces

here is a pic of a SEL bracelet from the rear

On the ones in the auction the rear looks different , this is because the front pics are of a SEL watch and the rear of a non SEL watch , the only explanation being that he does not have the watch and has just lifted pictures from the web

His user name suggests he was born in 1963, so his 40th would have been 2003, so maybe the watch was already a couple of years old when he bought it.

Some of the Pics are of a SEL watch and some of a pre SEL watch

You say it changed about 4 years ago.. he says his watch is from around 2002.. Couldn't the watch be one of the last watches of the old type of links

::EDIT:: Ok so they are different pics on the auctions :p

yes some of the pics were of an old type watch and some of a newer one

^ if the system allows you too at this stage

to do it earlier you would need to show that they are in breach of something ( such as you stating UK buyers only ) if not then you need to go through the motions even though these are obviously scammers at work
