I have never had to collect an item before, and i want to be clear how the deal works before i go ahead and bid.

The item is a kayak, and will finish above £500. I'm just a little unsure on a few things.

  1. What happens if i win the bid, arrive, and find damage or the not happy with the condition and it's not as listed? am i able to back out? Even though ive bid and won?

  2. how am i expected to pay if the item is good and im happy with it? with paypal on the phone whilst im there? is cash an option if the seller is happy with that? and can the item be marked as 'paid'?
Some help on this would be great!

Not something I have much experience of but if you win I'd say go prepared with a print out of the listing - then you can easily point out where it might not match the description as sold if necessary with a lot less argument.

Cash or BT, any seller who accepts PP for collected items is bit dense.

If it's nothing like the pictures or description then of course you can turn round and leave it with them.

Yes they can mark it as paid without it going through PP.

How close is the seller?
Why not message and ask if you can pop round and inspect prior to bidding?

Close, but not possible due to time.

I didn't know they could mark it as paid.
If for example the item is faulty or whatever and i decide it's not accurate and walk away. Can I mark this on the listing. Because I know when you win an auction you're committed to buying.

Generally picking up = cash.

If you aren't happy with condition you can back out (Item not as described). He is able to cancel the auction / relist it. You'll obviously be able to discuss this in person.

I have purchased 'Buy it Now' items where the item needs to be collected.

To be honest, if I turned up and the item was not as described, appreciate that it might be slightly awkward, politely decline and walk away. Before making the trip, a quick Google Map check helps, if the collection point is rough - you can form your own conclusion.

A print out of the description is a good idea.
