ebay problem

hi guys

i sold my iriver on ebay back in august and when it arrived it didnt work, i tried to get compensation on the special delivery but the people who had bought it had binned the packaging so that was a no-no so they sent it back and i sent it off to iriver for a replacement, but got an email today telling me cos i didnt have a receipt (bought the player 2 years ago and couldnt find the receipt anywhere) it will cost €140 to repair

now theres no way im paying this for repairs to damage which caused by royal mail, not me but they wont carry out the work under warranty unless i have a receipt

what do you reckon i should do?

do you have a bank / credit card statement showing that you paid the amount it cost to the place you bought it?

If not, I'd email the retailer and ask for a copy of the receipt.

do you reckon they could re-print a receipt from 2 years ago?

you reckon its worth sending them an email with my details and a rough time of year it was bought and price? i cant remember exactly

im not paying dont see why i should when if they hadnt binned the packaging - royal mail would have compensated the money

Yeah, but why haven't you kept the Special Delivery receipt with the reference number on it which would have been stamped at the Post Office?

i rang up royal mail and they basically said theres nowt they can do if the receiver has binned the packaging

danza - its with iriver at the moment so thats not really an option

Well you learn something new everyday. Seems incredibly daft that the person who the item was sent to has to keep the packaging, guess it's for 'inspection' purposes.

my dad says its their problem for binning the packaging - but it still doesnt stop me feeling bad about it all
