Ebay problem

Hi all,

I've sold a phone on ebay on behalf of a friend. It was an unwanted upgrade. The item has sold and I have received payment through paypal.

I receive a message from the buyer stating he is not happy with the purchase and claims it has been used. Apparently the plastic cover on the screen is missing.

He gives me two choices, to either refund him £30 and he will keep it or he sends it back for a full refund. I ask him to send it back for a full refund.

I then receive a message back saying the following...

'hi i have given the phone to my my brother to sell at the shop i will let you no 2mrw if he sold it then all gud many thanks'

Now as far as I'm concerned this means he is keeping the phone. I message him on Sunday evening asking what he is doing with the phone. I haven't had a reply yet.

The payment for the phone is sat in my paypal account but because I'm not verified, paypal are holding it till the 2nd March. He isn't replying to messages and hasn't left me positive feedback to release the payment.

I've no idea if he is keeping the phone or sending it back but my concern now is whether he can get his money back?

Unfortunately my friend is slightly hot headed and wants me to message him saying he is going to go to his address to sort the problem out. Obviously I am not going to message him this but he does have his address and will probably go regardless. I'd rather this not happen.

Any advise appreciated.

Thanks

well what do you expect...... are you not capable of making a decision yourself. If idiots are guaranteed why post a question that will draw them out?

Here is answer you may want:

If the buyer is attempting to sell the phone on elswhere he has decided to keep it, therefore do not refund him the £30 part payment or the full payment. If you want the money out of your paypal account, wait until the 2nd of March or verify your account with them.

If you don't like the way this transaction has panned out, stop using ebay.

Making a decision myself? I asked if the buyer is able to get his money back since paypal are holding it? It was a question that required an answer, not a decision!

I did state that as far as I'm concerned that means he is keeping the phone. I'm more concerned about him taking his money back.

I don't like the way the transaction has panned out and I won't be using ebay to sell items again, no need to be a moron.

As with all paypal transactions, if the buyer files a charge back request with his credit card company then he can get the money back from you.

A chargeback happens when a buyer asks their credit card issuer to reverse a completed transaction. Although a chargeback may appear similar to a PayPal buyer claim, it is in fact initiated outside of PayPal between the card holder and card issuer. As such, the outcome is ultimately decided by the credit card company and not by PayPal. Chargebacks are one of the unfortunate costs of doing business. Many sellers factor this cost into their business risk model.

Common reasons why a buyer might file a chargeback include:
  • The card holder is claiming unauthorised use of their credit card
  • The card holder is claiming they did not receive the item or the item received was different from the original description
If you receive a charge back paypal will contact you to check if you are eligiable for seller protection.

Is this better ?

Much better. Thankyou

:rolleyes::D

He can but if you've posted it correctly and can prove he's signed for it he'll struggle unless he's really good at bs'ing

Well I have proof he has received it. He's messaged me stating he is not happy with it. Also that he has passed it onto his brother to sell in his shop.

I just can't be doing with the hassle.

Cheers
