Does buyer Paypal protection apply to items won on Ebay, paid for in full using Paypal but collected from the seller rather than posted?

I beleive it depends on what's actually wrong with the deal. However PayPal have a very good reputation of siding with the buyer on eBay as long as they pay through PP.

does buyer protection even have any worth ? last time i had issues all the seller had to do was remove money and cards from his account then paypal couldnt refund me :/

Yes, but if the seller lets you pay with paypal and collect the item then he is an idiot.

Can you explain? I have no idea what I'm doing with ebay, but selling my first thing at the mo which is collect only.

Edit: ah... no seller protection. ok

This. Seller protection does not apply if the item is not posted.

I can't find a definitive answer on the Ebay website - it just says it must be 'postable' not 'posted'. The item is postable - but the seller is only offering collection. It's a technical item which is not testable on-site, so I wont know until I've left the seller whether it actually works.

I just want to make sure I'm covered if its faulty.

If they collect it you have no proof they actually collected it. So they can pick up the item, claim they never received it and then complain to PayPal, thus claiming the money back and leaving you with no money or item.

If the buyer pays with Paypal and collects the item in person you have no tracking method to prove that the buyer took the item. The buyer can then say to Paypal they never got the item and end up with the item and the money back.

Thanks. Do you still have to pay fees if you dont use paypal?

Well whatever, Paypal is accepted as a payment method.

I just want to know if I'm protected if the item is faulty.

Yep.

Remember to return the item using a traceable method of delivery if in a dispute.

Only fees associated with selling the item, (Listing fee, final value fee etc...)

So, what happens if someone wins my auction, asks to pay cash on collection. Visits, views the item and decides they don't want it. Do I then have to prove to ebay that it was unsold? Or will I get charged the final value fee regardless?

You will claim the item hasn't been paid for. Since no paypal transaction exists, you get all fees refunded.

The buyer also gets a black mark against their name.
