Grrrrrrrrr it makes me mad using ebay! BUT i feel i have no choice as what i sell never makes half as much if selling elsewhere!

my biggest gripe is people winning and not paying! often stopping a genuine buyers from getting there goods, i sold 10 items totalling 1k this last 10 days, 7 paid 3 did not, and that is what im dealing with now. and from my records 1/20 will going missing, which i suspect is often the buyer trying it on.

what else is out there and why now that ebay pretty much forces paypal on us all do they not just force everyone to instantly pay.... its a joke how easy it is to get out of winning an auction........"ignore email"

should be instant ban if you don't pay... What would they do in a real auction? im sure you would not be welcome back the next day.

I used to to sell a couple of items on Ebay most months but I have stopped. Partly because I always seemed to have a DD payment of £10-£15 for fees and partly because I sent an item that 'never arrived'. At this point it was hard to see how it was making me any money.

yeah i always send recorded but still they go missing, but after 28 days you get a rebate.

i problem is even though i try and sell elsewhere i just don't get the accidence that ebay gives

How do you go about getting a rebate? I've sent some RAM first class recorded which supposedly didn't arrive. :(

anything of a decent value (normally >£100) i will send through a courier service and anything else will go recorded delivery unless its only a few £. ive sold quite a few things recently and only had a couple of non payers.

one was for a well used ipod classic and he let me know within 2 mins of the auction finishing, i offered a second chance to the previous bidder and he accepted and paid instantly.

the other was for my dreamcast and he gave the usual "im waiting for funds to clear" crap.

it seems to be normally people sniping for a bargain but not reading the listing correctly which seems annoying.

i agree with whats already been said about once you win an auction its a must pay situation if not an instant pay, if your not willing to agree to the terms then dont bid!

How so? It's the easiest place to sell stuff in the world, they have to make money.

surely they still made oodles of money before they upped fees to 14%... and then bought out paypal... and started charging even more for the service...when theres nothing else that rivals it i guess you have no choice but to like it or lump it!

I recently had an idiot buy a car off me then not reply to any emails after the auction. It's pretty annoying when you have no way to get revenge on them for wasting your time. Thankfully I relisted it and got more anyway and was able to do the deal outside of ebay saving the fees.

I would never ever send anything on there without recorded delivery, although surprisingly so far I had more problem with buying stuff than selling.

I realise they have running costs but do they really need to charge, for example, on £600 listing final valuation fee;
5.25% of the initial £29.99 (£1.57) + 3% of the initial £30.00 - £99.99 (£2.10) + 2.5% of the initial £100.00 - £199.99 (£2.50) + 2% of the initial £200.00 - £299.99 (£2.00) + 1.5% of the initial £300.00 - £599.99 (£4.50) + 1% of the remaining balance of the final selling price
When technically its using the same amount of space and bandwidth as an item that for arguments sake costs £30 when they only take 5.25%????

Multiply that by tens of thousands of auctions a day, then times that by country, then take into account the associated paypal fees they charge per transaction, and thats only for buy it now, they charge even more for auctions.

Its ridiculous the amount of fees they charge.

+1 to be honest the difference in price between ebay and other sale sites/magazines etc... (on most things other then specific more specialist items) seems to be well worth the fees, the convinence alone makes the fees acceptable for me given you can now print off labels and pay for postage direct through paypal.

i just wish you could make it so only UK accounts could bid on your auction as nearly every item ive listed is followed by a reply of 'i live in XXXXXX how much is shipping' even though all my items are stated as UK only in the listing

edit: also where else could i of sold 2 broken phones for over £100 in total :)

yeah they have you over a barrel, the stuff i sell is worthless without ebay, so in that respect im grateful and the fees all though high are still worth it.

Its just the lack of punishment on non payers that bugs me, they should be warned or forced to pay within 24 hours or get a strike.... 3 and your banned.... i once waited a week for a guy to pay, no contact at all. then resisted he sent payment after 8 days i refunded he left bad feedback :(

Same here. Although the fees are ridiculous, I've got rid of a lot junk that would have ended up in a bin. I thought it was already 3 strikes and you're out??

I have a non paying winner right now with no feedback. My gut feeling he wasn't going to pay but gave him the benefit of the doubt. Quite annoyed...because I got stuff I want to get rid of asap that's taking up my living room floor! Now have to relist

This is why I prefer OCUK MM.

Yes someone could be a bit of a **** and take you for a ride, but the chances are very low. We have a feedback system and there are zero fees.

I do use ebay, but I rarely sell on there. Ebay is expensive to sell on but they have a monopoly.
