Why is it this always happens?

List a Phone on ebay, and within 10 Mins its sold! Great i thought i can post it today!

So i check who made the purchase and its an ebay user with 0 feedback... Oh crap i thought its a scamer or a moron.. which one this time.

Turns outs a new kind of eBay user.

I got a Message asking for more pictures of the phone, So i send some with a comment sating that if you pay now i can post it today.

I get a reply saying they have NO MONEY and wont be able to pay until tomorrow at the earliest and is there no one else i can sell it to?

WHY DO PEOPLE USE EBAY AND CLICK THAT BUY IT NOW BUTTON WHEN THEY CANNOT AFFORD THE ITEM AND WANT TO SEE IMAGES FIRST?? WHATS WRONG WITH PRESSING THAT DAM ASK A QUESTION BUTTON ?

Rant over

there are options you can select to only enable certain types of people to bid/buy

I have mine set to +10 feedback and less than 2 neg feedback in the last 6 months.

Bingo, these things are there to help you avoid this waste of time.

A friend had something similar.

Again, with a phone... Listed phone on ebay, somebody "Buys it now". few minutes later they get a message saying that they can't afford it and would you be able to discount it/send it for free because of their monetary situation (being a student)

The nerve ^^

Cannot wait for the MM; this is the exact type of rubbish that I hate dealing with.

To be fair though, I have had a few nice experiences on ebay where the seller has been very polite and their communication has been perfect.

So I wouldn't be able to buy from you then? or does only the 2neg feedback in the last 6 months count and +10 feedback can be from any time?

poor me, perfect feedback from people I have bought from with all of them raving about my instant payments.

I very rarely use ebay though

You have to be mad to sell a mobile phone on ebay anyways, scammers paradise. If it's not pickup only, and cash on collection, you're bound to have problems somewhere.

No, you're OK. You have +19 feedback and no negatives in the last 12 months.

I apply similar restrictions also, but eBay UK doesn't allow you to automatically block bidders with a feedback of +6 or above (unless they fail on other requirements). I have pretty much all options on the highest level of blocking activated, and +5 with no CC on file is the highest that eBay will block for me. I sometimes block them manually, but my settings have worked well so far so that's not necessary that often.

And an example of bidders that were blocked in recent listings:

I understand I may be blocking genuine bidders who intend to pay, but if they really want the item, then they can contact me as I don't block contact also (which is an option). My items always sell for generally what I expect, and I've only had issues with payment once in the 6/7 years I've been selling.

Not a problem I've come across, but then I always check immediate payment required when using Buy It Now listings.

As for setting restrictions, you may find it restricts legitimate buyers who are either new to eBay or have been a victim of a dodgy buyer/seller themselves. I don't set any restrictions on my listings and have nearly 1300 positive feedback as a seller.
