I just wondered if anyone else has noticed the rise of the "Opened But Not Used" in eBay, especially in computer parts. 99% of the time, seems to be a lie, because the parts have very definitely been used. Thing is, there isn't much you can do, because you can't really prove that something has been used? Is this another reason to eavoid eBay?

Nothing wrong with eBay, used it for 15+ years and basically never had a problem, the very few I did got sorted quickly.

But you have to be a bit savvy about what you use it for. I wouldn't buy a graphics card or similar high value electrical item for example, you have to judge the seller as well.

Buy I buy all sorts, much prefer it to Amazon. A lot of eBay sellers are just established UK businesses that have their own website/store but also sell through eBay.

Each to their own though.

Yes, bought a keyboard from a business seller, "Opened, never used". Turned up with dirt and grime all over the keys and hairs in between them. What really gave it away though was the fact there was screen burn on the OLED, so it wasn't even like it had been used a for a week or so, it was clearly months (if not years!) old.

I sent it back and bought a new one instead, and for comparison - this was 18 months ago - there is no evidence of burn in despite being in use at least 8 hours/day every weekday.

I bought an "opened, unused" item from Ebay, it was vr controllers ("knuckles"), they were cosmetically mint but 1 of the controllers very occasionally the thumbstick wouldn't work. I only noticed this after the 30 day return window had passed so was stuck with it, i ended up selling it on on Ebay, i disclosed the fault of course and lost money on it. I like Ebay but yeh there are definitely some chancers on there.

I have bought loads of second hand computers and never had an issue with any, the sellers had excellent feedback and loads of sales. I would also avoid buying high end computer parts or electrical items. The only real issue I had is when I bought a king size duvet which never appeared. The seller messaged me saying he had proof that it was delivered and the item was posted through my letterbox :D

Its pretty easy to tell if a part has been used or not with a close examination and its also easy to return an item for not as described.
