has anyone else seen the notice on ebays website? from Jan next year they are putting a limit on postage charges on certain item types... and they admit that it may not cover the actual postage but hey thats your problem. And they will be forcing sellers who sell mags and DVD's to post them for free... FFS is ebay determined to drive everyone away?

I dont know if theres an offical complaint email address we can send to but this is getting stupid considering they have now put the charges up for sellers to 20% + PP charges ..

Oh and incase you need it I managed to track down a phone number for ebay !!! 020 8080 2105

There's good and bad points out of this - means certain eSellers can no longer charge someone 20quid just to post a mousepad via 2nd class post.

but if your stupid enough to pay £20 delivery for a mouse mat then you deserve what you get....

The one that grates with me is the paypal ruling that makes me wait up to 21 days to receive the cash if the buyer doesn't give any positive feedback.

Puts me off selling on there anymore...

not come across this one, echeques cause delays but this is because the buyer doesnt have a card associtate with their account, I have a £1.58 e-cheque bounce last week !

The good outweighs the bad, ok people who sell dvds may lose out by 20p for p&p but it stops endless amounts of items that have a £20 p&p charge to avoid ebay fees. Personally this doesn't affect me as I only ever charge the proper amount of p&p, nor am I a business selling massess of dvds.

Ok, an envelope.. 20p
postage for DVD .. 56p(ish)
recorded delivery ... 72p (because if you dont ebay screw u if the buyer says it didnt get there !)
fuel to get to the post office 2 miles down the road £18.52..

I fail to see your point :D

if it costs £2 then you should be able to charge £2, if you want free delivery choose another seller

The idea is not to screw sellers over. It is to try and make ebay a more attractive place to buy. Some people get really really upset by sellers asking for inflated postage fees. Since all sellers will be in the same boat I don't really see what the problem is. If you are not getting as much money as you want for these items then write a better advert or sell your stock elsewhere tbh.

Its not whether or not we get enough money its a matter that we shouldnt eat into our profits to post a FREE item, why should it be free? the post office charge to send it...

You have a reciept when you post something, if it doesn't arrive you claim compensation.

yeh and you get a book of stamps... it happened to me loads before I insisted on recorded (read ebays t&c's it states that you must send it recorded, if not then you are liable to be robbed by buyers claiming stuff hasnt turned up)

Yes but there is every chance you will take more money home for your item because the buyer gets "free shipping" and may well bid up the item further because of this. I accept it is somewhat annoying but think you perhaps need to consider the big picture.

no, because EVERYONE will be offering free postage so theres no increase in you getting more... if anything you could have less chance if you use to offer low postage compared to others before

I very very rarely use buy now as ebay robs you even more on that. I can accept that limiting postage to certain amount is fair and I'm all for that but why FREE postage on DVD's etc?

People bid higher if they don't have an over inflated postage charge to take in to consideration in my experience. I never said anything about paying over the odds anyway.

so If I sold a DVD for £1.50 + £1.40 p&p (for recorded) I would make £1.50 but under the new rules I would make 10p....

A lot of buyers fail to realise that P&P includes, the packaging, time taken to package, postal rates and cost to get to the PO. it might not cost much to get there but parking fees etc. it all adds up

Crikey, if the idiotic feedback changes and comission hike hadn't caused me to jack in my account several months ago, this would've. Giving eBay the finger was probably the wisest choice I've made this year.

Morons.

the problem is a lot of businesses (mine included) now rely on it as an extra income, especially in the current climate, if someone can come up with an alternative they will make a killing

You increase the min selling price to compensate for it. That is ebays idea, all dvd sellers increase their selling prices to compensate so ebay make more profit from final value fees. Because everyone will increase their dvd prices you won't be put at a disadvantage and all the buyers will pay more for the dvd because of free postage.

if you start it off at 99p you dont get charged as much

About 25p extra out of pocket on a DVD that won for £5

old ebay rules
DVD £5 with £2 p&p
Listing fee 10p (listing at 99p)
final fee = 49p

New ebay free deliverly rules
DVD £7
Listing fee = 15p (listing at £2.99)
Final fee = 0.69p

I fail to see your argument here,
1 - who pays £5 -£7 for a DVD + postage ? you'd probably nip to Zavvi or somewhere for free and pay the same amount
2 - you didnt deduct the £1.40 postage (average)
3 - I still to see why we should loose out on postage

I'll just bypass the usual anti EBay posts - go away then, find somewhere else that gives you access to hundreds of thousands of potential buyers for the same kind of charge that EBay make.

This change is extremely welcome - nice one EBay on cracking down on yet another thing on their site.
The reason so many people have a problem with EBay is that there is always somebody trying one on.
Item £1 and then £40 delivery - the idea so that their listing gets priority being cheaper.
They also hope people won't read the high delivery charges and be stuck with them.

The EBay system works really well if you do it properly.
That is - I charge for an item and for delivery I put how much it will cost me to send it via the carriage system of my choice (RM Special Delivery is still one of the best as it offers the tracking demanded).
The price for that delivery service is available on the RM website.
Simply round it up, so using the £4.30 service I'll charge people £5.

As for the free delivery cats - again, it makes sense as these are low cost items to send - amny being sendable for the price of a stamp (unless of course it is an extremely valuable comic for example, but this is a rare transaction).
As the rule of free delivery will apply to all, you simply factor in the cost when you sell the item.
So I sell a DVD for £1 now with say £1 delivery.
Come the changes I'll sell it for £2.
I'll either be competing with people in the same position as me or people selling at stupid prices, either way once their copy has sold then mine will.

*Claps EBay on sensible decision*

you are of course assuming that you CAN sell it for £2, what makes you think people will buy items in an auction for more than they do now?

Again I reiterate, why should we be forced to pay by paypal and offer free delivery just to line the pockets of ebay.

I've seen craigslist and wasnt too impressed with it, from memory it was very low budget and difficult to navigate, this may have changed now though
