Ebay - Selling items - need help

Hi all,

I'm currently in the process of selling my house but i want to start to sell a few items, I’ve bought various things from Ebay but im not familiar with selling items on Ebay. If there is anyone that can make it a bit more understandable on what the pros and cons are of selling things on Ebay are please post :) the prices etc are confusing me to death! Seems ill spend more than getting something for the item.
 
Pros:

the biggest market in the world, it's that simple.
auctions mean that items often sell for more than they're worth.

Cons:

fees.
scammers.

I wouldn't say that at all. If you're selling designer gear it goes for fractions of the prices because of all the knock offs
 
The Fee's is whats bugging me at the moment, is it worth selling an xbox on there or just taking it down to cash converters, i have posters to sell and other things. Just don't know what to do with it all. Might be a local friday add jobbie.
 
Is it ok if I only accept bank deposit as a payment method, instead of paypal? Also is it possible for the buyer to have his name on the bank deposit, so I know who paid what?
