ive absolutley had enough of it now !

tottally redicoulous

why is it near impossible to contact them and then they dont even bother replying anyway

i had bought/sold about 50 items problem free but the last 2 items are just a peetake

sold a bike part .... the buyer choose the cheapest unrecorded delivery out ofmy 3 options (ill never do that again) even though it only saved them about 1.50......suprise suprise they did a chargeback on me about 3 weeks after

paypal paid them back even though id sent them a receipt of postage and cover letter etc

this left me the bike part and a - £40 paypal balance

about a year of annoying phonecalls and letters later i just cut my losses and paid the debt collectors.

so then i decide to give ebay another go and sell another item. ......but the buyer said theyd changed here mind and wouldnt pay for it

2 months later ebay just tell me no we wont credit you . this leaves me out of pocket again because ebay took the charges out my account agges ago

im never using it again !!!

Everybody knows ebay is t.eh sucks. :p

I use about 4 different sellers to buy things from, and those are sellers I KNOW have a great record and have given me especially good service. I don't sell on ebay.

I think this is a pretty widepread problem mate, i have lost count of the times i have heard similar stories to yours :(

ebay will get involved when starts costing them money.... until then they couldn't give two hoots.

ive never had a problem buying

but when i sell stuff i seem to be a magnet to fraudsters/idiots :/

the paypal chargeback was what annoyed me most ,probly didnt do my credit rating much good either

Doesn't surprise me really at all. I've only tried to contact them once, and I don't plan to again. I was reporting a blatant case of shill bidding, and the response I got thanked me for my email and said that they had considered the case and had decided they would not suspend my account. It seemed like the person who dealt with me, at best had a poor grasp of the English language.

I've had a lot of trouble with ebay and paypal lately. I'm still trying to get my money back for one item through paypal but I think its lost. Also bought some glasses on the 16th and they still have not arrived :( if they are not here tonight I will have to email the seller.

TBH at the moment most things are over priced going for much more than you can get them new on the internet for. And everything else seems to be a scam :(

Of course you are going to hear a lot of horror stories - what website or service has that many subscribers as eBay? None is the answer.

I was thinking about this recently.

There was a thread on here a while ago about paypal getting the debt collectors in but I'm sure I'd read somewhere about people refusing to deal with them and there's nothing they could do about it, does anyone have further information on that?

someone needs to come along and create a new company that does what both paypal and ebay do.

You put something on their site to sell, someone wins the auction, you then send your item to the company who will then acknowledge receipt. They then request payment from the buyer, who pays them.

They take their % and send the seller the money and the buyer the item.

yes it would make the fees a higher plus you would have 2 sets of postage but it would cut out all of the hassle.

They have a company like that in New Zealand (it has a different major auction site to ebay) I think its called safetrader, and it does exactly what you mentioned :)

So which are the safest methods of payment with ebay?

I used to accept cheques or postal orders when I sold items but I was considering using paypal for some items I have lying around.

If you're selling a cleared cheque or a bank deposit would probably be safest, not sure about postal orders.

Adds unneccessary delays to the transaction. Don't forget that for every dodgy/illegitimate/flawed/troubled transaction there will be hundreds upon hundreds of genuine transactions. When was the last time you heard someone praise their eBay experience? Very rarely - you only hear the negatives.

in all the years i've been using ebay i've only ever had one problem, and even that was a very minor thing. the last few things i've bought have been absolute bargains that have arrived quickly and been excellent quality items.

so i'm very happy with ebay right now. :p

They don't seem to offer great assistance when things go wrong, and in most cases choose for the easiest solution (to them).

It's the same old, same old isn't it really.
Nobody ever praises a service but is first to jump up & down when things don't go according to plan.
Not that I'm saying the OP hasn't got a good reason to jump up & down.
However of the many thousands upon thousands of transactions that go through EBay & Paypal on a daily basis the majority of them, actually the vast majority of them are absolutely fine.

I've been an on & off EBay user since my very first transaction back in 2000 I think it was.
I accept Paypal for payments, in fact with cheques being a general pain I only really accept Paypal.
I make all of my payments with Paypal.
Just recently I've been clearing out ready for my DirectX 10 graphics purchase and I'm pleased to say I've raised enough funds to go out and buy one now - I'm just going to wait a little while.

Over the years I've never had a single transaction go bad.
I've had the odd person refuse to leave feedback - which annoys me as it is the only way we know if it is safe to deal with people.
I had one person do a BIN and even though I said I only accepted Paypal and I only shipped to the UK he wanted to do a Bank Transfer and have the item shipped to Belgium - I cut my losses on that one and relisted it after banning people from outside the UK from even bidding.

From a personal point of view I have found both EBay and Paypal to be excellent and I'm sure many more questioned would answer in the same way.
At least you've got some protection from such a site/company (even if you don't think you have).
Certainly a lot more than arranging a deal through some forums.
