Check out if you like Industrial, Dance, Electo, 80s Pop, Metal - you may find something you like.

Thought i'd create a thread for this mostly underground genre as it has a lot to offer music fans.

Feel free to discuss bands, recommend stuff, discuss gigs, albums etc.

I've been into this for a few years and it's my favorite genre of music.
The basic principle is Electronic Dance/Pop mixed with Industrial.
Some of it is very easy listening and influenced by 80s pop, some of it is quite harsh and that's mostly the more Industrialised stuff.

If you want a quick idea - Youtube things like:

Colony 5 - Ghosts
Zombie Girl - The Darkness
Covenant - Judge of my Domain
Icon of Coil - Shelter
Combichrist - Get your Body Beat

Also, gig wise I have just seen Covenant at Legends in Newcastle and they were truly amazing.
VNV Nation in October, Aesthetic Perfection in November.
Then there is Resistanz 2012 in Sheffield next April.

This thread may die, but i'm going to try to help give this some exposure!!

Wow, didn't except a reply so soon! haha.

Rotersand are really good, i'm hoping to get a chance to see them at some point.
Didn't know about Infest, i'll check that out too next time it comes around.

I've been listening to this music for a good few years thinking nobody else did. I soon found out one of my best friends loved it, and my partner llikes it, plus she knows a couple of people who listen to it too. Who knew eh.
Then all of a sudden there are loads of EBM bands playing in my local town out of nowhere!!!

Yes I was very happy when Icon of Coil were announced, that was enough to make me buy a ticket. I hadn't previously heard of Memmaker but i'm liking them, and also i really like Frozen Plasma, another one who i didn't know previously.
The only one I do not like so far is Ultraviolence. It reminds of of an EBM version of Aphex Twin.

I'd have to agree with your analogy there which is why i'm always surprised that more people don't listen to it. Ok, the harsher bands i can see why, but a lot of them are very easy to listen to if you already like Dance.

On the subject, although not EBM...Infected Mushroom are my favorite artists of all time. They are just in a class of their own in the world of Dance.

Can't listen to song here, will see what it is when I get home.
I'd struggle to pick a favorite song out myself. There are so many great ones to pick from.

Oh, and I see you like Celldweller from your sig. Would love to see him live at some point. Really like Wish Upon a Blackstar, probably my favorite work he's done yet.

That they are. I've always preferred Rock/Metal to Dance over the years but to be honest most EBM bands are above any Metal bands on my favorite list and Infected Mushroom top the lot.
Musical perfection!

It certainly seems that way. I hear a lot more about it these days than I did 3 years ago. A local club to me even has EBM nights, of which i've yet to go to but will when I get a chance.

I stood out a mile at Covenant gig on Sunday. You'll know yourself how the general EBM, Industrial crowd dress and here is me looking more like i'm going to hit the trendy clubs in town. But hey, I love the music but am not into the fashion and the great thing is nobody gives a damn.
I think i'll get dressed up for Resistanz though, just to get really into it.

I really wanted a Noob Saibot costume from new Mortal Kombat game. lol

Really not sure about this genre. Some is good some is bad. I dislike the guys who sound a bit lazy and droney, they've plugged in a synth, started talking some nonsense over it and it goes on in that monotone fashion for the duration of the track. And dislike fancy dress too.

I think the vocals is no doubt what put most off. Personally, I really like it like that. I find the heavy beat and tune go well with a more deep, monotone style of vocals. Although some go a bit to far with that. I find most of them do sing properly on the whole though.
But i'd take these vocals anyday over the typical generic female chart dance vocalist.

What would you say are some 'good' and what would you say is 'bad'?

I think the genre itself is rather broad and covers a large variation in bands.
If you consider the fact that And One, Suicide Commando, Covenant, Modulate and Method Cell all come under it. They are all totally different styles. From harsh Industrial Electronic to pretty much 80s Pop.
I find i like both ends of the spectrum but you could list 10 bands who vary in extremity and it would show a gradual merging of 3 genres.

Considering how terrible most genre cross overs are then this alwaysh as potential to be great when the write artists do it.

Indeed, it's about finding the stuff you like really, For listening at home I prefer acts with really strong vocal identity (Rotersand, VNV Nation, Combichrist, :wumpscut: etc) for the club then it's all about the beats and the music (stuff like Modulate, Noisuf-X, [X]-RX, Nachtmahr etc)

Totally agree. In the clubs or at gigs there are some bands just made for it. Pounding beats like no other music can offer and it's amazing.
But in the house I do like a bit of a sing along. haha. Despite having one hell of a horrible singing voice, but whatever.

And more Infected Mushroom love from Tummy! lol
I'd love to see them...

I've recently discovered a band called 'Surgyn' after they were announced for Resistanz.

Their debut album 'Vanity' is amazing. Well worth checking out if you like a mix of harsh/clean vocals with good lyrics and pounding beats. It's also very catchy at the same time.

Loving it.

I've got Astra Projections discog like, really like them. Infected Mushroom will always be my fave Psytrance though...they just seem to cound totally different to anything else.
I have about 50GB of Psytrance and another 30GB of Ambient and Darkpsy stuff. Awesome.

Only recently discovered Nachtmahr myself, again from Resistanz but from all that's said i'm looking forward to seeing him/them.

Nice to hear Aesthetic Perfection are good live...they are coming to Newcastle next month and tickets are only £10. Deff gonna pop down.
Uberbyte or due up soon too at only £8 so will drop in then too.

Seen VNV Nation last week...loved it. They were amazing live like.

I stand out like a sore thumb at these gigs though because everyone is totally OTT on dressing up for them and here's me looking like i'm going to hit the trendy bars. lol.
I just ain't got any of this gear...used to when I was 16-18 but that was a long time ago!

I wanted to dress up as Noob Saibot (MK9) for Resistanz but can't find a costume and don't fancy trying my hand at making one - it'd be a nightmare.

Shame I can't view any of these vids at work. Will have to at home as always looking for more of this stuff. I tend to just download anything and then buy whatever I end up liking bit by bit.
But I mostly just love gigs so like to find out as many artists as I can and go see them when they are on.

Right now i'm really into Rotersand again, due to them being announced for Resistanz 2012...I was soooo happy when they were. !!!

That Resistanz lineup is starting to look pretty amazing, might try and do that and Infest next year.

That it does. I'd already got mine as soon as Icon of Coil were announced as the first band. But to have Rotersand there too...well...

Plus, from what i've heard of al lthe others, I think most are awesome.
Only one i don't like is Ultra Violance, ironically the 1st ever EBM band I heard and at the time didn't know it was EBM. I dismissed them then and my thoughts haven't changed.

£50 is a bargain really. Sheffield is only a few hours south from me.
My lass is coming but will probably just let me mate sleep in the same room as i'd feel bad since we were going to share but i've invited her along as some of her friends are going too. Don't want him to have to pay for 2 nights in his own room!

SPARE TICKETS

Probably too late here, but i've just had a bit of a horrid 2 weeks including my partner being very ill, and then getting stranded in Nepal for 2 days and then due to 4 days without sleep from that having a huge fever and ending up bed ridden myself....

So Resistanz is a no go i'm afraid and I have 3 tickets for it.

Selling them on Ebay (only ones) if anyone is interested - pass message around. No reserve and they will no doubt go very cheap.

Yeah to some extent, a lot of people in the 'scene' as it were tend to like him.

That's a shame, sorry to hear about that :( Probably the best place to stick it is the Resistanz Facebook page?

Yeah I wasn't going to do it in case they didn't like me advertising tickets there but what the hell, there is not too many days left now.

Totally gutted but with everything else lately it's just went bottom of my priorities! Always next time.

Bringing this one back after finding my thread in a google search on EBM gigs in Newcastle. lol.

I ended up missing Resistanz afterall last year as my partner took ill during a hike in the Himalayers the week before.

To make up for it though we went over to Cologne for Amphi Festival which was amazing. The line up was insane and the venue was great. Hopefully get back this year.

Doesn't seem to be many up and coming gigs at the minute. But Celldweller are at Resistanze 13 and nobody can come with me :-( WTF!!!!!!!!!

Only 1 of my mates likes the music enough to go but he's got 2 kids (one just born 2 months ago) so can't get away for 2 days.

My partner likes a lot of the music but doesn't fancy the line up this year.

Think i'll just find some internet folk to go with. I'll be taking the car down so has to be some people who will.
I'll even offer to buy another mate a ticket if he takes his spending money as he doesn't mind the music just wouldn't go out of his way to see it.

I just thought Celldweller were one of those i'd simply never see. Not sure if he comes over here often

Would've thought you'd be camping outside the venue already shami

He never comes here. Ever. No matter how much we beg he always invariably goes to Russia.

I should probably go since I've probably listened to Celldweller every day now from 2008 onwards. Massively influential/inspiration. Probably won't though, I'm just not into the whole EBM 'scene'.

It is just a DJ set and I'd prefer to see the full live band but it'll still be awesome to hear that music live.

I'm not into the whole 'scene' thing either I just love the music. I stick out like a sore thumb at these places looking like i'm going out to a fancy cocktail bar not an EBM festival but that's just how I dress. It's quite funny having all these 'alternative' folks judging you with their eyes as they themselves complain about others doing to them outside of these events.

It's all just about the music to me and EBM is by far my favorite type of music so I don't care.

Mind you at Amphi last year some of the fashion was really cool. Some people must have spent a small fortune on their outfits. Not sure how they could put up with being in it all day like.

To be honest the line up isn't the greatest for me this time around but as i've seen all the bands I like before except Celldweller. So it'd just be the Sunday for me if I can get someone to come.

There is a large fashion element but I've found that people are pretty friendly at these festivals. I don't make much of an effort (I like to dance, I want to be comfortable when I dance) and I've always felt comfortable around people that have put a lot of effort in.

Yes it's just a DJ set, but then even his DJ sets are something a bit different, he still does vocals and plays guitar for some songs. There are videos on youtube if you want to check it out.

To be fair the funny looks have only been at local gigs in town. At these festivals I agree nobody cares at all.

I'll have to check out some stuff on YT then yeah - i've never even seen him live online. Was thinking of buying the Live upon a Blackstar Bluray though but i've had things like that before for Prodigy, Skinny Puppy, Pink Floyd and AC/DC but only ever watched them once.

I'll have to get it ordered on Amazon then to check it out. Live blurays do sound amazing on the SS system.
Seem to be convincing my mate to come down if I buy his ticket and he just brings spending money.
I don't really care it's only £30 but at least it gives me some company!

Still haven't got anything sorted for Resistanz this year. I'm now considering just going down in the car and coming back that night. It's only about 2.5 hours away. Just thought I might get rather bored between bands on me jack.

Also would have no idea where I could safely park my car all night near the venue. It kind of stands out so not too keen on leaving it anywhere i'm not familiar with. lol

On another note, Mesh are touring.
