eBook vs Print

For those of you with issues attempting to hold onto a superheavy device such as the kindle without dropping it I'd suggest getting yourself a squashball and while walking around or sitting in front of the telly use it to excercise and strengthen your fingers, you'll then be able to hold that 274 grams (or less if you have a newer kindle) without it slipping from your fatigued fingers into your bath water and causing a tsunami at the other end of the bathtub the likes of which have never been seen in suburban england.

I've been using my original kindle wifi to read in the bath since I recieved it a few weeks after release which must be about two years now, it's still working perfectly and I've yet to drop it... sods law states that I will now do so of course, pictures to follow when that happens.

You can send your recommendation to friends, only now they have to buy it, or they can borrow it from the amazon library. I'm not exactly sure how it works, by that if I mean if you pay a monthly subscription, but it is possible to borrow books on your readers too.

If people like the book and might want to read it again then I'd recommend they do buy it but with an eBook (assuming it's not one of the thousands that are beyond copyright and therefore should be free) they've either got to purchase it straight away or borrow it and (presumably) read it by a certain point or it becomes unusable for them. Maybe over time there will be better solutions but it's not selling it to me just yet on that basis.

I can see there are some advantages to eBooks but none of them are particularly compelling to me as it stands.

The excuses some people come up with as to why ebooks are inferior amuse me no end, it's pathetic, grow a pair and admit you're a luddite. Smell of a book, lmao, if you're into book sniffing you're probably best off keeping it to yourself :p

Can't read an ebook in the bath? Don't be ridiculous.

If not wanting an eBook reader makes me a luddite then I'm fine with that. They offer no compelling advantages for me and indeed have some disadvantages in the way I tend to use books.

The wife first got a kindle and I didn't purely through the purist "like real books" thing.

We just ran out of room to put all the books we read.... (the wife more than I likes to keep them rather than swap them) so I eventually gave in.... reluctantly.

Now, about 6 books in, I think they are bloody brilliant! Just easy to transport, convenient.... I;ve got my next 10 books lined up on there... no going away and forgetting your book, buying another, having a few books on the go etc....
