ECC, buffered?

[judder]

With regards to memory, what is meant by the terms ECC and buffered?

Is it better for memory to be ECC or non-ECC, buffered or unbuffered?

Cheers.

ECC/buffered is generally used in servers.

Non-ECC, unbuffered for laptops/desktop.

thanks for the reply. Would it make a difference to a desktop PC if either is used?

I don't think a PC would boot up/detect the RAM if you used ECC/buffered.

Buffered/Registered

This is a nice little presentation:

To the OP, keep in mind that you do not necessarily have choice in using ECC and/or buffered memory. Your MOBO+chipset will determine this.
