echo from microphone

Hi all,

Not sure if what i am about to ask is possible, but here we go.

I have installed a carputer for my car and have got bluetooth handsfree, the sound comes out from my speakes and i have installed a microphone (stripped an old desktop mic down) and installed it.

Only problem is, i can hear fine, they can hear me fine (kinda!) but whenever the othe rperson talks they get an echo of themselves. Is it possible to stop the mic from picking up the sound from the speakers?

The soundcard in question is a creative live!

What's the microphone like? I suppose you could, as a temporary solution, see if shielding the microphone with a piece of cardboard from the speakers would stop a lot of the sound getting to it. With a piece of cardboard almost wrapped around it, it might help- just a thought.
