Eclipse...Metal Aloy Front Cover?

Would it be possible to get a picture of the finished product?, im not too keen on exposed usb sockets, im interested though. Will it be brushed alloy like the rest of the case?.

It can be anything. It can be black or colour anodised or brushed. Finishes are options that would add to the cost I would imagine.

If I can just expand on where we are;

Hoojum have given me a rough idea of prices and timescales to make a new front for an Akasa Eclipse.

The setup costs are roughly £1000, plus I have to give them a case to prototype from.

The finished front cost could be anything from £15 to £100 depending on what finish and options are required. Turned alloy buttons add a bit. Black anodizing adds a bit. Threaded screwholes to mount the existing PCB add a bit... and so it goes on.

The original idea was to try and get some folks together to get a small batch made at cost price. But as no-one was interested, I started looking at going it alone. So my case would cost somewhere in the region of £1100. Even if I got 3 made, it would still have cost me £1000. That would be crazy.

As a result of that I'm looking at doing it commercially instead, so I think I have to stop contributing to this thread. :D

this idea is growing on me, if we got a few grand together, made as many as we could, 25 or 50 or so, then got OCUK to sell them, possably as an OCUK brand, with the number of hits this place gets, could sell them out in a very short space of time and recoup the cash, hmmmm......

Aw there goes my idea about a metal front for the akaka case:rolleyes:

I would have joined in with he payment but im short of cash at this point in time. Maybe ill be one of the people to buy the front panel if it takes off and gets sold.

Good luck:)

Looks like Akasa are updating the design, adding a new vented front door. No images of whats behind it unfortunately...

Dang that is such a better front but ill agree I went with the Eclipse due to no front door, I need to access my DVDwriter instant at times no time for a door !

Id still be skeptical about going Akasa again, id like them to improve the front with no door and consider some sound proofing tech like Antecs Sound inducing Panels found on the P180.

I dont think ill ever be happy with a Case or PC ;)

Just bought this case off fleabay for @ £77.
Had a Chieftec dragon nad I thought that case was wel made.
But this...this is fantastic...I love it to bits.
If I were to change anything I would have had hexagon mesh for the front intake. Now that would have made the case look better.
