Eclipse woes

I hope someone can help. Since April, I have been with Eclipse 8mb. From the very first day, I was connecting at 8000kb/s and downloading at 650KB/s from newsgroups. A very happy customer.

But since Saturday, I can not stay connected for more than a min or so, unless my router connects at a very slow speed, such as 224 Kbps.

Eclipse say it is not them, and have now sent the issue to BT, but offer no timeframe or even if BT can help.

Also, my connection manger panel @ eclipse always said "not set" for line rate, however, as soon as it said "576 kb/s (updated 15/07/2006)" the trouble began.

Can anyone help?

Thanks all.

No nothing. I can connect now because I'm at 226kb/s, but the router has to retrain for hours because it normally connects at 8000kb/s.

Anything above 500kb/s and it will disconnect in a few mins.

I get 58k (giganews and http downloads), no matter what sync speed (normally 8mb).

I just hope BT can fix it.

Yes, but it won't stay connected at that. In less than a minute it will disconnect, resync at 8mb and then repeat.

Sometimes it will sync at below 0.5mb, (I'm at 226kb now) and it will stay connected.

No mater what I download at 58k.

It started this weekend, and before I synced at 8mb and downloaded at 650k for months.

Looks like my thread got kind of hijacked.

Anyway, a BT bloke came today with a laptop to try and find out what was wrong.

It appears that either eclipse or BT has made the line a 512k adsl. The line is fine and should support a sync of near 7MB but it is stuck at 512k.

I was then told I had to wait 10 days for the profile to become stable. I has been six days now, and I can only use the internet after waiting hours for my router to sync at near 512k, as it always syncs to 7MB. Downloads are always 56kb/s.

I don't think it is a profile problem. In april when I joined eclipse I went straight from a 512k connection to 8MB, and was synced and downloading at 650kb/s the same day.

Eclipse won't help. BT won't help. I just don't know what to do now.

You mean it only syncs at 512kbps?

It's up to Eclipse to push BT to help, and you to push Eclipse. If Eclipse won't do anything, then as suggested ask for a MAC.

I spent 2 hours on hold on saturday. I think they must have had only 1 person there.

This morning, after 30mins I got through to someone. But all they done was blame my router, even though I told them that the symptoms were mimicked on the BT blokes laptop.

All they could do was raise another ticket with BT:(

My problem is that, since last Saturday I always sync at 7616kbps, after seconds it drops and resyncs at 7616. After hours and hours of this, it will sync at something very low, like 160kbps and then it will work. No matter what I sync at I download at 56KB/s. It has not improved over the last 10 days. The BT bloke said my line was in great shape and supports 7mb/s but for some reason is stuck at 512 for throughput and said I should wait 3 days and then contact eclipse.

I'm close to giving up.

It will stick if you keep synching at 160kbps. It's not the throughput that's the problem per se (since that's the expected behavior of the BRAS limit setup), but the low sync rates.
Did the BT engineer's modem also show the low sync rates?

Yes. I only get low sync rates after hours of it trying to sync at 7000. But even for the few mins on 7000 (before it drops) all I get is dead on 56kb/s.

I'm not sure this OpenReach guy could be called an engineer. He seemed to know very little, and could only offer me a "give it three days". He said it was a "tricky one".

Sat here, with router in front of me, all I ever get is "retrainig, up @ 7616kbps, down, retraining, up @ 7616kbps, down..." for the last 10 days. After about 100 or so cycles of this, it will sync to 160kbs, and stay up. No improvement, no difference at all.

Looks like my problem is resolved. I'm still disconnecting now and then, but I am now able to download at 650kb/s when synced at 7616.

The problem went as quickly as it came.

As you can see in my first post, all this trouble started when my eclipse control panel read:

576 kb/s (updated 15/07/2006)

it used to say "not set".

Today it changed and reads "7,392 kb/s (updated 24/07/2006)" and my problems have gone.

Could this have anything to do with it?

Then I have no idea why it is now OK.

Moving to ukfsn anyway now that the 2mb cap is in place - it's not worth having giganews.

Update to my problem.

On monday, all was fine, synced high and downloading at 650kbps, problem solved.

For 24 hours.

Tuseday came and I was back to 56k downloads no matter what I sync at. The eclipse control panel confirmed it: my line rate was back at 576k.

Eclipse now say there is a fault on my line.

Having similar problems over the past few weeks with my eclipse adsl connection.

Stable at 8mb for 2 months.. now i cant even get stable at 256... and BT said the line checks out fine.

Tried new cables/new filters/new adsl modems and have had my router directly plugged into the test socket of the master socket for 4 days and still constantly reconnecting .. up to 30 reconnects a hour at varying speeds all over the place.

BT and eclipse did several line checks and cannot find a fault...

This sounds exactly like my problem a few weeks ago. Good luck getting it resolved - eclipse and the openreach guy were stumped.

Just got off the phone from BT and there is no fault - eclipse were testing another number!

BT said you have to wait 3 days. It takes 15 mins to drop you down and 3 whole days to get you up again.

20 mins ago it went from 576 to 1mb, so can download at 1mb now.

Does this mean I have to wait another 3 days to see it go up again?
