Hi,

I think the time has come to get a new case and sell my Akasa Eclipse62 :(

Been looking at other cases for a while now and I really think the airflow and cable management on my current eclipse is outdated.

Im looking for a case with plenty of space and has the PSU at the bottom with good cable management. I also would like their to be room for loads of fans, preferably 2x 120+ mm fans at the front, 2x or 1x 120+mm fans at the top and 1 or more 120+ fan at the back. I also would like it to have a window so I can see my lovely cable management. However I dont want any mesh on the side panel, this leaks too much noise.

My aim is for excellent airflow with low speed fans to maintain low noise levels.

Ive been looking at the new Fractals seems to have what I want except Im not sure about it not having a reset button and also not sure of the front lid.

My price range is no more than £100, £120 at most if its absolutely worth it. The cheaper the better though I dont really want to spend £100 on a case unless absolutely necessary.

Any suggestions?

Own an eclipse myself still sits on the downstairs pc as I picked up a silverstone ft01 on the cheap.

Had I been buying new I would have gone in the end I feel for a Lian Li PC-A70FB.

Worth stretching from £130 to around £150 for as is the coolermaster which is mahoosive like the eclipse.

Note at the top of the A70FB the room for a power supply as well as bottom mount and it has the mountings up top for a 120mm fan should you wish to run power supply at the bottom I also think it's a hdd cage if so desired.

Doesn't come with a top panel that has fan cutouts but you can buy top panels from lian li that do I believe plus i don't think you would need them on air cooling the mid 120mm pulls cpu air out and top rear catches any excess heat at the top.

And you can buy windowed side panels I think, okay it brings the cost right up but you could add those much later on.

I am not sure anything other than a full tower case is an upgrade from an eclipse my silverstone fortress ft01b normally cost £150 ish and it's no better for cooling than my eclipse.

The corsair 600t looks good but a bit cramped in there compared to an eclipse but I'd take a look at the corsair 600t if you don't mind the styling.

Good call on the new cases announcements yea worth waiting.

Made the move from an eclipse to a Lian Li A70F myself, airflow in it is very good, running an i7 at 4ghz with sli gtx 275's, though i replaced the stock led 140mm intakes as i dont like lights on a case. Lian Li currently manufacture a dual 120mm top panel for this case and a windowed side panel, the top rear psu area does indeed house a 3 slot hdd bay which is removeable. A full tower was the only upgrade path for me after having an eclipse.

Cable management is pretty good, if you take your time. Theese are the only 2 shots i have of mine as it currently stands.

Sorry for the poor quality, my phone camera isnt great, if i took a bit more time i could tidy the gpu power cables up a bit more, all the other cables run up the back of the mobo tray.

Earlier shot of cables behind mobo tray, prior to running sli gpu's

Lian-Li PC-P50B and antec p183 worth a look I guess as are the r2 for mid cases but you aren't going to get better performance than an eclipse from most cases.

yea the eclipse is still good only issues Are no top exhaust and power supply has to go up top.

my ft01 has a front 180mm fan and top 180mm fan 120mm fan at rear kama bay with 120mm fan in 525 bay and i didn't notice any temperature improvements over the eclipse at all.

The psu runs cooler as it sits down the bottom that's about it.

The eclipse is still a great mid tower case, nothing ive seen can match them for width, i only wish my a70f was as wide, it would help with cable management. The only reason i changed was because im thinking of going to a watercooled setup, to do so in the eclipse would have been difficult without cutting it up a lot. I liked the eclipse range that much i still have two of them.

The cooler master cm690 II is an option if you like room for lots of fans but again the size and room to work in is going to disappoint when compared to the eclipse.Still think you should go full tower though as you may end up with a case that performs no better than the eclipse.

The more I see of this the more I like it, not blown away by the exterior but has some good features imo just comes down to it's release price I guess.

It looks like if I want to upgrade from an eclipse Im looking at something that is a bit too expensive for me. I would rather put the 150+ quid towards a decent graphics card or upgrading properly to a i7 setup.

The eclipse is still a decent case its just that darn power supply being at the top its making the cable management more difficult than it should but also wastes valuable space up at the top.

Im looking at a cheaper option now, one that involves zero cost, which is to take my time and really try and sort out all the cables etc in my eclipse and cut a hole in the top panel, try and use as few power supply leads as possible, take out a few hard drives that I dont need, and basically make the most of this case. Only problem though is the darn wires for the header connectors on the case, they are too short for the mobo I am using, so there is no way to hide those cables. And they are ghastly cables, all colourful and some of them are white and in your face. Maybe there is a way to extend them?

Is your eclipse one of the models with the three hole motherboard tray? Theese can help with hiding a few of the cables.

Actually its not but I bought one of those trays off the MM a while ago so now it does have the holes. They help a lot, but I still find cables making a mess. Its those power cables, they are so stiff, that combined with flimsy non-braided fan cables that seem to come apart so instead of one cable you have 3 spread out. Looks disgusting. Good thing the case it under a desk, but now that I need an exhaust fan at the top thanks to the genius people behind the corsair H5O those power cables are practically blocking the whole of the top area.

Im sure though if I took my time and really worked it all out, planned the cable positions and how many to use, that I can minimise it though. Its a chore though!

what did you do in the end i still got my eclipse only got a cpu,gpu and ssd drive in it,dont want to change it,ive got so used to it, have you got a new case now?

is the eclipse no good anymore? or are there simply better cases out there? I only cause i own one and its the best case Ive had to date

I think my HAF 922 will trump it:D.

My brother has eclipse 62 and I compared haf 922 with it size-wise and haf 922 is still slightly bigger than eclipse 62. However eclipse 62 is still one of the best mid tower cases. It's design is beautiful especially from the front.:)

to be honest i cant stand the front of my a62, i just find it a lil bit borig, but its not bad for a case i paid £5 for, i find its kinda hard to cable manage, but i am curently modding a top panel intake fan for better airflow and a vent so i can mount the psu the otherway round, so its not pulling through hot air from the cpu heatsink.
