Now I have set my heart on replacing my current cooler (Freezer 7 Pro Rev2) and I have decided to get one of the CoolIT Eco's but I dont know which one. To be able to use the 240mm Rad id have to buy a new case to support it and I do not know if it would be worth it for my current CPU (Q9550). Would the 240mm be overkill for this chip?

I was going to get a 240 but like you required a new case to fit it so i plumped for the Eco ALC 120 for now for my Q8200 with push pull fans just waiting for it to arrive today.

I think the Core 2 chips run hotter than the Core iX chips but dont quote me on that im really tired so i dont think it would be overkill, slap some quiet fans on it and bobs your uncle.

Well I can afford both setups but obviously the 240mm setup would be more expensive because of the pre-requisites. Wonder if anyone has any benchmarks or that wonderful guy from CoolIT could help in this situation, I heard he will post if you tempt with cookies and milk!

Me too but im going to be buying a whole new PC in a few months just wanted something quieter than the 92mm fan cooled heatsink i have now that sounds like a jet engine at 100% usage.

This PC recently got gutted and had a lot of new things bought for it..the only thing left is the mobo/case. And this thing is coming with me when I emigrate to the US

Rrrrooooookies? Rhwere?

Andromeda, i've got the chart below for your reference but if you tell me what chip you are using and what your OC / temp goals are I'll let you know what one I think would be best for you.

Cheers,

ps. the guys at OCUK are thinking they can get the 240 tested really soon which will give you a nice real life point of reference as well. fingers crossed.

Well im limited by my memory of course so right now it would be about 3.4GHZ overclock on stock volts. Temp/Noise goals are pretty much, keep it a good amount below what im getting with my current ACF7 Pro Rev 2 which is currently set to its lowest fan setting. Of course as I said in a previous post, id be buying 2 Noctua 700RPM fans in a push pull config if I got the normal ECO. Chip im using is a Q9550

Important tip make sure your case fits, i just assumed 120mm meant 120mm, there are bulges on either side of radiator, if i fit it so bulges are up towards top of case the PSU is in the way, and if i mount it so bulges are out to the side then it sticks out about half an inch from side of case.

Guess its my fault for buying a cheap and nasty case.

Yeah it's kind of annoying. I can't fit a 240 in my case because the second case fan at the back is flush with the roof of the case and I can't even fit the 120 in if I have something in my top pci-e slot =/

get a h50 or h70 instead, the latter performs better than the 240 and is cheaper, the former performs only a bit worse but is about half the price of the 240

When deciding between ECO and ECO-C240 the best advice I could give would be that an ECO in push/pull (intake or exhaust) will get you to 4Ghz perhaps beyond depending on the other variables on an i7920 which is is a good point of reference.

An ECO-C240 can either go beyond or do the same w/ lower temps and less noise. Remember you can configure it as an intake or even push/pull as well.

So, at the end of the day it just depends on your budget / goals. Thanks for the support guys!
