ECS 8800GT has underclocked memory?

Has anyone else tried to see what the memory will run at? its possible just an incorrectly configured BIOS was flashed to the cards...

Just checked my 8800GT, also bought from overclockers. It's the one with green frog on the box.

Doesn't one type come with Accelero S1? I bought the S1 as well, bit annoyed about that. I can't even overclock it, just crashes :-(

BTW my fan speed seems locked at 100%.

At 100% rpm is 1050 and the same at 30% according to CPU-Z.

I noticed that with mine too. It does Make the card rather noisier than is usual at idle, but at least it I didn't notice it getting louder under load.

Yes I have just found where ECS replied to someone who had the same problem and that function isn't supported.

I carn't hear it over the other fans and it's no louder than my 1900xt with a zalman fitted.

I sent it back on Friday (cost me over £5) and OCUK sent me an email yesterday saying they had received it. They did not question me on it, though I did make it clear exactly what was wrong with the card when raising the RMA request.

The email also states it will take about 5 to 7 days to test it, so though I know it wouldn't take very long at all to actually confirm the problem, it does look like I will have to wait a bit before I get a replacement.

Well Ive directed the guy from OCuk to take a look at this thread. As this will no doubt show him the problem with the card.

I can also confirm that the card did infact slow down my first 8800 to 700 instead of its default 900mhz.

But Ive put the ECS card back away awaiting return.

I emailed ECS and they replied :-

Dear Sir/Madam,

Thank you for contacting ECS!!
For this model,we have three specification:700MHz,800MHz,900MHz.
Please be informed.

The one advertised by OCUK was 900MHZ, and I'm sure it said it was the OC version although they never stated the make of card.

well it certainly doesnt say that on the advertisement for the card. And had I have known that there was a chance that I could have got a card slower than the one I currently have then I would have paid extra to ensure I got one running at 900.

I will wait to see what response I get, hopefully I dont get the one you got.

@ Sel, How long you had the card, and did you order via the website ?

No I bought it from the shop but it was selected from the Weekly Only Deal on the shops computer so it should be the same, I carn't see any mention of the memory speed on or in the box either.

The current advert dosn't mention the OC version but I'm sure the weekly deal last week did.

I've only had the card 5 days.

The weekly offer had exactly the same specs as the non offer one. I took a screenshot when I realised the problem in case there was any doubt:

Also, if you have ordered online you can go into your order history, open the order the card was on, click on it's link and it will take you to the page the non-offer card is currently on.

I'm not sure where you stand if you bought it from the shop, but anyone who ordered online and got this particular ECS model should certainly receive a replacement without question: We did not get a card up to the specifications that were advertised at the time of purchase.

Well, that confirms this cards memory is definitely designed by ECS to run at just 700mhz (so no production line errors). As any bios flash or manual overclock either wont work or will damage the card in time (and will also invalidate the manufacturers warranty) it's far better for those affected to get the card swapped to a proper 8800GT.
