Hi

I've got an old system with a ecs k7s5a mobo in it. Been running about 8 years now no probs.

Then the other day the cd and dvd drives started flashing when I switched it on and it would wait about a minute before the POST beep and booting.

Thought it was something to do with contoller for optical drives so pulled power on them but didnt didn't work. Now from cold boot I have to turn off and restart and few times before it'll POST.

Any quick fixes on this or has it had it?

Thanks

Masten

Could be a number of things, hard disk would be my favorite at that age. Solid state circuitry can last for many years particularly if it has been reliable and not overheated, moving parts fail.

Download a test disk from the manufacturer.

Placing my bets on the power supply I built a good few machines on the k7s5a platform and tbh its a cheap board which was normally chucked together with a cheap supply and a barton 2500+ for a cheap but fast system.

Have you got another supply to test with?

Hi guys,

Finally got round to doing this. Figured it can't be the hard drive as that won't stop it POSTing, and as soon as it gets to boot sequence it auto detects and boots no problem and has no problems at all

Had my money on PSU too so changed it but same thing. CD and DVD burners flash for about 2 minutes. Then it POSTs and boots.

What next. Pretty much leaves the board doesnt it? Cant be BIOS battery as all settings are intact

Thanks

Masten
