Not sure to post this here or in GD, I went for the former as its a Motors related topic or a sort! - apologies Dons if I fall below expectations again! :o

I'm soon going to be an "Eddie Spotter" from the inside of one of his trucks it seems!
Stobart Group have announced their intention to buy James Irlam Logistics - my employers - (James Irlam & Sons Ltd) for the bargain (!) price of £59 Million!

The Stobart Group Limited (“Stobart”), the leading provider of multimodal transport and logistics solutions, has today announced its first acquisitions since listing on the stock market in September 2007. Stobart proposes to acquire James Irlam & Sons (“Irlam”) and two smaller acquisitions, alongside a placing and open offer of new Ordinary Shares.

The Irlam Group, one of the largest independently owned road transport logistics providers in the UK, is set to be acquired for the consideration of £59.9 million (£36.2m cash, £10.0m shares and £13.7m in loan notes). Based in Chelford, Cheshire, Irlam provides transport, warehousing and contract packing services for blue chip companies including Proctor & Gamble, Danone Waters and Pedigree.

Irlam will complement Stobart’s existing business operations, increase efficiency, add significantly to the scale of core transport and storage business, and enhance its customer base. The acquisition brings a strong and proven operational team of managers with whom Stobart has a long-standing working relationship, including David Irlam (Chief Executive Officer) who will join the Group’s board. As a result of the acquisition, Stobart will operate more than 1,300 trucks, 2,300 trailers and employ over 3,500 people.

Photoshoppers, this is your chance.

How would you integrate Irlams into Stobarts vehicle liverys?

Do your worst please - I'll be printing off the best & posting it up @ work! :D

Cheers.

Expect photo's of various Stobart trucks to be posted over the next few weeks / months.

I didn't know Chelford was their HQ :o Hopefully they will close it, getting stuck behind an artic from Macc then to Chelford then for him to let his mate out up to the M6 is a ****ing pain in the arse :p

I always thought the James Irlam logo/theme was pretty much identical to Stobarts, expect for a different name and colour.

Do Stobarts still send you a tenner if you phone up with the Reg of a driver with no tie on?

This is the 2nd takeover/merge in recent months, Culina Logistics recently merged with Bayliss Logistics!

:D

I thought Stobarts already had something going with Irlams??

Do you get bored easily R124/LA420? I didn't think it was that long ago you worked for SCA? :p

Stobart & Irlam have the "Stobart Irlam Partnership" where we share depots, fuel facilities trailer parks and jobs.

This is a logical step, James Kenneth Irlam sadly died recently,Now that "Old man Irlam" is gone, the sons are free to sell the business on.

Despite that they are doing very well at the moment (Irlams) if I were in Mr Irlams shoes, I'd have done the same.

I got fed up with DHL who ran the contract @ SCA so I left, infact they ran it so poorly, Irlams have taken the contract from DHL! - I can't escape SCA! :p

:D:D
You can dump the air from the suspension on the unit & trailer, it gets a much better effect than that ;) - I'll take a picture one day if I remember. ;)

Just glad you won't be working for Kenyon Distribution or I'd have to put salt in you tea, they hit and run my old TT and then pretended their 360 degree onsite surveillance (50 yards from the scene) wasn't 360 degree!

I was about to photoshop words to that effect onto a clonestamped blank lorry canvas :D but got distracted

Maybe they should just call it Ed & Jim's Truckin' Co.
