Eddie Van Halen dead at 65

This is one of my true guitar heroes and I went to see him on the very first UK tour supporting Black Sabbath.

A true loss.

Never really knew much of his music but the guitar solo on Beat It is phenomenal

The story around that is he was asked to do a solo, he turned up with his guitar and amp, listened to what he was playing over and that was the first take and he went home.

I'll always remember when I started learning guitar one of the magazines had a thing about the Ice Cream Man solo and it blew my mind someone could do that on guitar when I was struggling just to get my hands to behave and make the basic chord shapes.

In 1978 I was standing right at the front at Victoria Hall Hanley and every time he did a solo he turned around
He used to do this on purpose.
