I've been looking at a timetable for 2011-2012 and on the 2nd Jan and 16th April there is a week called "Assessment Week". Does anyone know what these are and if you have to be at the university? The course is teacher training if it's specific to the course..?

Cheers

No idea. Different universities will have their own stuff in their timetables. In my first year there was a load of stuff in mine that I wasn't expected to go to.

Probably worth calling your department. This close to the beginning of term, there will certainly be someone there who will know exactly what it is and what you're expected to do.

Ormskirk, near Liverpool.

It keeps switching between being a College attached to Lancaster uni and being a Uni in its own right.

I got my degree there, and PGCE, but that was a while ago now!

They do like giving assignments out though while you are doing the teaching too!

I can honestly say I have never heard of Edge Hill University.
Where the heck is it?

It's a small one, but growing quickly. I've heard it was one of the better teacher-training universities in the country.

I know Ormskirk well as I grew up there, although I moved down south many years ago now.

Assessment week? Mhmm...

We have Reading Weeks which is a break from university timetable, allowing you to get on with your work in uni, at the library, or at home.

Possibly the same :) ask your university lecturer or tutor?

In-case anyone else is searching for the answer, at Edge Hill, this assessment week is when all exams take place.

So if your course has exams, this is when they will be, if it's coursework based, you will have these weeks off.

As said it will be the january exam period. A lot of unis have exams after christmas as well as in the summer.

Depends on your course if you will have them or not.

So what you saying is that I was right? HUZZAH!

Technically yeah ;) But I needed more information about exactly what went on as I needed to know if they needed you on site or not. Fortunately the course does not require exams so it's a free week which won't require accommodation and will allow a cheap holiday which is not in term time :)

I am sure there will be plenty of "reflective" type essays to write or some kind of school type stuff to be done

Going good mate thanks, it's an undergraduate course that I am on though. Campus is is quite good but only really work from one building so don't get to roam much.
What course are you doing?
