Hi folks

As title really, I'm looking for a bit of advice re these two sets of speakers. They will be used in a reasonably small room connected to the PC.

They are both similarly priced so really unsure on which set to go with. Mostly used for the usual PC stuff movies/games/music.

any ideas?

tia

The 1600T III is a completely new design and uses separate amps for tweeter and woofer, plus it has a new 19mm silk dome tweeter compared with the 13mm silk domed tweeter in the R1280T.

The 1600T also has an angled baffle, while the 1280T is vertical, so I would say that the 1600T is better suited to desktop use while the 1280T is better on shelves or speaker stands. The 1600T is bigger in all dimensions and considerably heavier too (6.4Kg vs 4.9Kg)

Personally I would go for the 1600T III

thanks for that rids57, really informative.

One last thing, my current speakers (JBL Creature II) is a 2.1 system with a sub woofer, as the 1600T is 2.0 would I have to buy a separate sub woofer?, or are these capable enough.

Thanks again.

If you want a 2.1 system wouldn't you be better off getting one that's ready made, like the Corsair SP2500?

Your subwoofer provides the amplification for the satellites, so can't be used to feed the Edifiers as they require line level signals.

Looking at the specs of the system you have (50Hz ~ 20KHz), the Edifiers should provide as much, if not more bass and the rest of the frequency range should be much more natural sounding.

Each speaker has the same sized driver as your sub-woofer, plus they are reflex ported. They are not going to compete with a large sub-woofer but should have at least as much grunt as you're used to.
