Edimax EW-7318USg "detachable antenna with extended cable" & Standby

Hi all,

How long is the cable on the Edimax EW-7318USg to extend the aerial?

I need a USB device (no PCI slots) but having the aerial away from the adapter would be much better - how long is the cable that comes with it?

Edit:

Additionally - does this device fully support Standby with Windows XP, as the machine it will be connected to uses Standby, and it has to be able to resume/reconnect without user intervention, and not prevent the system going into Standby.

You'll probably have to go to the manufacturers site for details like that. Edimax are quite cheap and cheerful, so personally I would go with Netgear, Zyxel or Linksys if they do the same product.

Nothing wrong with them IMO, have a switch of theirs that still works fine years later. They're not on the level of Dynamode or Belkin.

Do switches ever go wrong? :p Routers and especially wireless can be much more flakey with crappy firmware. Agreed they are not as bad as those other two makes, but not far off.

I had a USB wifi dongle made by Edimax as well, although I sold that since I moved to gigabit ethernet. I'm not sure about the firmware, but it used an Ralink chipset.

Right...

Ordered one of these yesterday and it was delivered today.

Lets just say that the product description is completely wrong/misleading.

The antenna is in fact detachable. But there is no cable supplied in order to move the antenna away from the actual device (as the description led me to believe due to the way it is worded)

What you in fact get supplied is a 1m long USB A-A extension cable. I guess this is what they mean by "extended cable"

This isn't really what I wanted, as I was aiming to use it for my CarPC, where the PC is hidden away, and I don't have space for or want the entire wireless device to be placed in view - so I was hoping I could put just the very small/thin antenna out of the way somewhere.

I guess I could do so if I bought an additional antenna cable (it's a standard connector) but I was expecting there to be one in the box already!

Just a heads-up should anyone else interpret the description the same way that I did.
