Edinburgh

Last time I was in Edinburgh I wanted to eat at L'escargot bleu (https://www.lescargotbleu.co.uk/) as I'd seen their kitchen garden setup on youtube a couple of times and liked the idea of a restaurant/chef trying to grow as much of their own veg as possible, they also aim for lots of locally produced food if they can't do it themselves. Had a pretty quick lunch as was tight for time but went for the specials at the time and I thought the starter was amazing (involving orkney scallops) and the main was good but not quite as nice (some kind of ayrshire game bird I think), didn't try a dessert.

My post here is my first foray in to planning it :D

It was just a conversation along the lines of

Me: "shall we go up to Edinburgh in May?"
Wife "Yeah that sounds good, I'll get the Friday and Monday off"

In terms of accommodation, I'd say nothing ultra budget, but nor do I want to spend £500 a night

In terms of where we go, happy to travel around but neither of us is that interested in History

Activities, Food and Nightlife is all good though.
Accomodation wise, you've just described the reason why Premier Inn's exist! Royal Yacht is well worth a visit even if you don't care too much for history or royal family!

Edinburgh has an amazing bus and tram service. Waverley station is slap bang in the middle of town and the airport has great transport routes into town too. If you're staying in the city with no plans to go elsewhere I wouldn't take the car at all. There are dozens of hotels in the city to all tastes and budgets.

Wander up Arthur's Seat if fitness allows, it's a lot easier than it first looks.
It is, providing you turn left at the ice-cream van.

I had no idea. I turned right and went up the sodding scramble!

I've seen kids in sandals with scooters walking up so yeah, it's easy unless you take the cliff option :D

We found the tram really good way of getting around day ticket was about £11.
Helped that the stop was a 30 second walk from our hotel !

Stayed at Mal Maison in Leith which was nice, Fishers was a good restaurant next door if you like seafood.
The Dome is also a really nice place to eat, with a stunning interior.

only there for 2 nights whilst doing a Northumberland/Scotland road trip but will certainly return one day.
