Impossible unless you give at least a tiny bit of info, like what do you consider to be ‘best’ and what do you intend to use the monitor for.

theres dozens of ‘decent’ screens that price

what do you need to plug in? Sound? Size?

General gaming, will be at 1080p. Looking for around 144hz. There's quite a few options after searching a little but can't really decipher which ones are better than others.

Something like the 27GL850-B or S2721DGFA are £300 or so. Both 27" 1440p. Can't really go wrong with either.
Cheers, I'll have a look tonight. I'd also looked at the Aoc Q27G2U/BK.

I was slightly put off the larger screens as I read above 25", the picture isn't great. Will that be improved by running at 1440p?

1440p at 27" is smaller pixels than 1080p at 24".

Whether that's a good or a bad thing is entirely dependent on you, your eyesight, and the apps you use. But in theory smaller pixels is better!
