Hi guys,

I'd like to merge two DVDs; both discs are approximately 10 mins each and aren't of particularly great quality. I want to rip them and cut about a minute off of each of them, join the two clips and burn the end result back onto a DVD.

I'm thinking virtualdub for the joining of the 2 files what what should I use to rip the discs? Its been ages since I've done anything like this...

Is that any one (free) program that would fit my requirements from start to finish :)

I've tried using handbrake (.mp4/.mkv) but I really need an .avi to be outputted to be able to work with it in vitualdub... are there any free alternatives to handbrake?

Thanks.

If they've got no protection, just copy them with explorer. Import into virtualdub, if you can't combine them (not sure if it lets you do it with vobs), then convert them to AVI, and import them both into Windows Movie Maker and combine

or windows dvd maker if vista or later when you've edited the files, this would give you a menu easily enough. You'd need to make them avi's first though and be finished with the editing

Sorry to dig this up again but I've copied the video_ts folders onto my machine but how can I access them in virtualdub? Are they supported?

Really struggling here; I'm trying to convert the outputted files from handbrake to .avi using Any Video Convertor but I'm having no luck... never had these kinds of issues before! I'm sure handbrake used to support .avi out of the box
