Hi,

I just wondered if I could legally decompile a flash game, make it submit to SQL on my website without altering the game itself or copyright notices etc. and then re-compiling it?

Thanks,
Craig.

if it was copy writed then no....

Best thing to do is to email the author and ask them....
I can't see a problem provided your not making people pay to play the game.... BUT ASK ANYWAYS!

:edit
however, saying that.... if your only using the program for yourself and your personal pleasure then as long as you don't put it on a public server then they wont know about it....

Hmmm, would be a bit of a hassle emailing every author and asking them especially if I wanted to make a large online arcade or something.

Maybe if I edited games that didn't actually say copyright on them?

hmmmm, at that point you'd get into an argument over interlectual property rights....

It comes down to wether your doing it for fun or for profet..
If you charge money to play games you WILL have to contact the author or you run the risk of getting sued or something....

If your just doing it for fun and in no way shape or form gain monies from it (including donations) then they'd be annoyed....

But as I said.... unless they spacifically states in a readme file that your alowed to mod their prog then your not....

I know what you mean about emailing all the authors....
I used to create mod packages for ST Bridge Commander that was a compilation of other peoples mods and I ended up using a spread sheet of who'd authorised me and who hadn't....
A nightmare but worth it....

So my advice is, don't be lazy and go do the right thing :p
