Up until recently I was using a program called Xilisoft Video Converter that I bought some time ago but the general quality is kind of crappy to be honest.

What would a good alternative be that doesn't cost a testicle and is easy to use ?

Literally all I want to do is shrink down my videos from 2GB to something a little smaller and keep as much of the quality as possible as my upload is only 300kb so it would take an age.

Any info is appreciated :)

handbrake's free & very good for converting video - it's also pretty user friendly. Another free alternative is MeGui - has lots of options to play with but is much less user friendly to begin with.

Avidemux (also free) i tend to use for cutting video (it's quick & cuts most things whether avi, flv, mkv or mp4).
