Alan Johnson as shadow chancellor - what a joke. I am guessing his financial and economical skills are as good as his love for some basic civil rights during his previous post.
Alan Johnson has no economic qualification, and just a point, he used to be a member of the Communist Party of Great Britain. I think this selection is an early symbol of Ed's weakness within the party ranks. The leader had at his disposal, two extremely qualified, well read and experienced economists in Ed Balls and Yvette Cooper... Both of whom polled more votes than Alan, as well. The fact he didn't opt for either of them signals, to me, that he would be unable to influence them.
