Just ordered a MacBook through the Apple Educational site and got £100 off an iPod nano! (via a rebate) Best deal I have seen in ages...

Yes its only with the higher education discount. The deal is called "Back to School" and you have to send a letter, with the rebate, from the institution you are attending to prove you are in higher education.

i got my macbook about a month ago and this deal wasnt on, im going to call them up tomorrow and see if they let me get this rebate or not.

It says in the T&C:

3. The computer and iPod purchases must appear on the same sales receipt.

Which kinda sucks considering I have just bought a new MacBook too and although I have an iPod nano i'd have laiked to get £100 off a different one (such as one's that they announce at WWDC).

Hmm I wonder if I can use the corporate discount combined with the friends and family discount and the education discount also :)

?? are you sure. the HE store, and the normal 'apple store for education' are different. the latter gives you around 6% discount off stuff, the former 15% i think. the HE store can only be accessed from your University network, or through the NUS website.

EDIT. I don't think the offer applies to the HE store :/ From the FAQ on the apple website:

"Can I purchase the qualifying products anywhere?
No, you must purchase at the following locations:

Apple Retail Store (UK Only)
Call 0800 039 1010 (UK) or 1800 92 38 98 (Ireland)
Apple Online Store for Education Individuals "

"Apple Online Store for Education Individuals "

That is the HE store accessed via your Uni's network / NUS.

You can purchase through the HE store, it a banner on the bottom right of the main HE store page. It's definalty there because I got that quote from the T&C in my last post on the page in the HE Store.

The question is, do I get the 4GB nano or the 30GB?
Don't really need 30 gigs of music, how on earth do you listen to that!

Looking at the Bose Sounddock also.

its for nanos, so i guess its only the 2/4 gig version ?

For the education deals, does it only cover college/uni or does it cover high school too?

Both :)

However with the University deals you can pickup:

1Gb Nano - £12
2Gb Nano - £19
4Gb Nano - £55

30Gb Video - ~£108
60Gb Video - ~£165

all after the £100 rebate.

So in theory you could say buy the Macbook for £643 and sell say the 2Gb Nano for £80 and this would mean you get the Macbook for only £563 ;)

BeatMaster :D

Think I will just get the nano.
Do they still scratch?

Mine has and it's in a official Apple "nano tube". Not scratched nearly as much as people who use them without any protection but it is notiable if you look closely.

To be honest I'd wait until at least Monday. There could be a new iPod or at least a revision announed at WWDC. As apple products genrally become availiable the day they are announced I would ahve thought you can get one under the deal.

Sorry i was just refering to information i had seen on a education discount area of apple.com which i found a link to on the UCAS tracking website. It turns out it was the apple store for education rather than the HE discount site.

The weird thing is i assumed it was the HE discount store because it was from a link in the tracking area of the UCAS website and because the prices are reduced more than the standard "apple store for education" shop even though they are both presented as exactly the same thing  .

The UCAS link : http://store.apple.com/Apple/WebObjects/ukFEIndividual?qprm=106787

The apple.com/uk store link : http://store.apple.com/Apple/WebObjects/ukInd?&noji=yes&family=MacBook

Notice the "FEindividual" in the url of the UCAS link which i assume stands for "further education"

The discount on a MacBook at the FE store is 8.8% compared to the 6% discount at the "apple store for education". So it would appear there are 3 education discounts available, "the apple store for education" discount @ 6%, the FE discount @ 8.8% and the HE discount at 15%, or maybe i've been really stupid somewhere.

I think TUNAFISH has got it summarised about right.

If you are away from Uni it might be worth checking to see if you can set up your PC as a proxy server and therefore use the Uni's IP address when you log into Apple store, this worked for me.
