education software...?

just started studying a distance learning course from Uni, and need to get a a 'office' like package.

I have seen the education software is sold slot cheaper than the retail, I'm sure I qualify but what do I need,if anything to purchase edu software?

Yep, just check to make sure that your University doesn't expect work to be submitted using a specific file format, or that it's compatible with Open Office if they do.

Have used it in the past but it feels different and as GarethDW mentioned their might be issues with compatibility ? Need to check it out though it might have changed since the last time I used it.

Yeah, even when you're not a student anymore the licence is still valid as far as I'm aware.
