State = publically funded, every kid in the UK has the right to go to one of these.

Public = independant school associated with the Headmasters and Headmistresses Conference (HMC). Famous examples are Eton, Harrow, Winchester College.

Private = independant school run as a business.

GCSE equiv. = State

A-Lev. equiv. = Private
