Hi guys

Just wondering if anyone can help. I have just upgraded from BT 900 meg to EE 1600 meg. They sent me the Smart hub pro which has the 2.5gb ports.
I’m getting 1600 over WiFi but only 930 over Ethernet. I have 3 PC’s connected over Ethernet, 2 are through a switch which only takes 1000 meg, so that needs replacing but the third pc is connected directly into the router. I’m using cat6 cable.
I spoke to EE and the said to wait a week for it to settle but are a bit stumped.

Anyone got any thoughts?

Thanks
Gwyn

Ah, that old classic from VDSL days. Despite the line clearly being capable of 1600 Mbps proven by your Speedtest.

It does sound like a potential autoneg issue, if the NIC in the PC does support 2.5 Gbps.

Having 2.5Gb ports doesn’t guarantee anything unfortunately, Intel for example had multiple hardware revisions of i225 that were either incapable or unstable at 2.5Gb, the solution was to quietly reclassify them as gigabit.

I will investigate more when I get home. I might have to get network card for them, would that solve the issue?

Diagnosing the actual issue will allow you to solve it, throwing parts at it may, but it’s pointless buying a card if it’s a cable or you have for example forgotten to mention an interim part of the data path that will otherwise limit you to gigabit.

I will change the switch first and see what that does, might be fine then, if not, I will go from there.

I had a Realtek 2.5Gb adapter on a PC and it would struggle to max out my EE service until I formatted the PC for other reasons (it was originally a Windows 10 install so six years old and due for a wipe). On a clean install it works fine, and I never figured out why.
