Off to Egypt soon and trying to sort either data roaming bolt on or failing that turning off data roaming - 4 lines.

I've gone through the app and website and it's pump. You can see the option to turn off data roaming, but I when you click to switch off it auto enables again. I can see EE offer roaming packages, but when you click for more info it won't let you read what countries it applies to unless you pay first - wtf?

I'm going to give ee a call, but anyone know if you can add Egypt - I don't want the kids racking up charges while away!

I know the costs for roaming, hence why i'm worried we may hike up charges. I'm trying to find out either a. turn off roaming completely or b. add a roaming pack.

I spoke with EE, they say there are no bolt ons for Egypt, so have just had them disable roaming, add a spending cap and turn off voice mail.

Why would you want to turn it off. You'll have to then turn it on when you go to europe.

Just turn it off on your phone, so much easier. I bet what you are asking is quite an unusual request.

Also literally first search on google.

Immediately get addon costs including data. Definitely not worth it btw. Definitely just buy a SIM with a data bolt on when you get there, much cheaper and sold in the airports.

Why would anyone go to egypt ? westerners get flocked by scammers and rip off merchants, totally hassled check youtube.
even the pyramids aren't safe

We've been to Egypt, many years ago now but it was such an interesting place to visit. It certainly has its downsides, like insane traffic in Cairo and litter but seeing the pyramids, Cairo museum, valley of the kings, Luxor museum, the sphinx, taking a balloon ride over the desert at sunrise etc was superb. Dont recall getting hassled or scammed at all

You don't get what i mean, i know what the roaming costs are, hence my concern of inadvertently running up a huge bill. What i am asking is what bolt ons are available. EE offer travel bolt ons where you pay a one off fee and you can use your UK package etc. I've used these may times across the globe. Unfortunately after speaking to EE, the bolt ons do not include Egypt.

When we did Cape Verde we purchased a local sim on arrival - may do the same for Egypt as recommended above.

The link clearly says what boltons are available for Egypt. You can buy 20MB boltons. It does not offer roam free passes like other countries.

Advice I have received is to buy a local data sim at the airport. We've booked for next year but a lot of the hotel Facebook groups recommend the same advice.
