EE sim only deals?

Possibly. I went to USA in 2019 and before I went I called them up to add a pass on that would let me use minutes, texts and data over there out of my normal plan. It had a start and end date.

Cool, thanks. It's actually quite a good deal at £10 since it allows up to 15GB of data. I paid £8 for 2GB on VOXI the other day when I went to the US.

I'm tempted to go back to EE since Vodafone's coverage is noticeably poorer, but these deals are 24 month contracts which feels like a very long time.

Does anyone know if the EE "Roam Abroad Pass" can be enabled on a month-to-month basis?
Yes it can - I've just done this a few weeks ago whilst in Tenerife - you pay for one month and then when you get back from being away, just logon to MyEE and click remove. You'll get billed for the full month regardless but if you're away for more than 5 days, it's cheaper than paying the £2 per day in the EU.

Thanks very much! VOXI are removing free EU roaming on 27 May so I need to make a decision. Was looking at GiffGaff since they still offer it for free, but the O2 network scares me a bit.
